To earn a 3-star rating on Level 16 in the Age of Origins minigame, you must eliminate every infected unit before any breach your base perimeter. Achieving a flawless clear requires building a concentrated kill zone at the central intersection where split paths converge, prioritizing area-of-effect (AoE) upgrades over placing scattered baseline towers, and saving manual tactical strikes for armored boss waves.

Initial Placement and Wave 1–3 Setup

Level 16 features split lanes that merge at a central junction before separating again near your base. Do not place level-1 turrets near the spawn gates; scattered towers lack the concentrated firepower needed to prevent fast runners from leaking through.

  1. Place a Machine Gun Turret directly on the first major turn of the central convergence point.
  2. Build an EMP (Slow) Tower immediately adjacent to the Machine Gun Turret to cluster incoming runners and extend their time inside firing range.
  3. Add a Rocket Launcher on an interior tile that covers both the approach and exit lanes of the junction.
  4. Run waves 1 and 2 at normal speed (1x) to monitor runner speeds and confirm that your kinetic and splash overlap cleans up the initial packs.

Mid-Wave Upgrade Order (Waves 4–6)

By wave 4, grouped swarms and shielded infected begin absorbing baseline kinetic fire. Upgrading your core cluster is more effective than expanding across empty grid tiles.

  • First priority: Upgrade your central Rocket Launcher to tier 2 between waves 3 and 5. The larger blast radius clears trash packs in two shots.
  • Second priority: Upgrade the primary EMP/Slow Tower to tier 2 before wave 6 to lengthen the slow duration and keep swarms trapped inside the splash zone.
  • Third priority: Place a secondary Machine Gun Turret further down the track toward your base to finish off low-health stragglers.

Late-Wave Bosses and Commander Abilities

The second half of the stage introduces heavily armored mutant bosses. Kinetic Machine Gun fire is ineffective against heavy armor, creating logjams that allow faster units to slip past undetected.

Deploying Laser Defense

Build a Laser Tower along the straight path exiting the central choke point. The ramp-up beam damage is required to melt heavy armor values. Ensure its firing arc overlaps the slow zone so armored targets take sustained damage while moving slowly. Spend your mid-stage resources taking both your Rocket Launcher and Laser Tower to tier 3 rather than placing low-tier turrets along the backline.

Timing Tactical Strikes

Manual commander skills—such as orbital bombardment or freeze abilities—are required insurance against late-wave leaks.

  • Target the cluster, not the vanguard: Wait until the armored boss moves into the center of your EMP slow field alongside its escort swarms before triggering your bombardment. Eliminating the surrounding mobs instantly allows your single-target towers to refocus entirely on the boss.
  • Recovering from leaks: If a fast runner breaches your main kill zone, do not waste a full orbital bombardment. Sell an inactive forward turret that the wave has already passed to recoup tactical funds, then immediately place a level-1 Machine Gun Turret directly along the runner's remaining path to preserve your 3-star rating.
