To clear levels 177 and 178 in Block Out, maintain at least one empty tube as a temporary buffer throughout the puzzle. Keeping a buffer open allows you to cycle mismatched blocks out of crowded columns without locking the board.

Preserving Open Buffer Space

The primary cause of failure on levels 177 and 178 is filling every available tube prematurely. When all columns hold blocks, you lose the ability to shift top-layer pieces out of the way to reach buried colors.

• Evaluate destination tubes before moving: Check the bottom color of a destination tube to ensure placing a block there creates a matching stack rather than another blocked layer.
• Avoid filling the final slot: If a planned move fills your last empty tube without completing a color stack or freeing another tube, look for an alternate path.
• Maintain cycling flexibility: Use empty slots strictly to transfer obstruction blocks temporary while sorting primary colors.

Isolating Abundant Colors

Higher color density in these levels creates clutter across multiple columns. Tackle the most prevalent color first to reduce board complexity early.

Grouping dominant colors into dedicated tubes eliminates background noise on the board and creates reliable "clean" columns. Once a dominant color is completely sorted into its destination tube, that cleared space becomes available to process secondary colors. Placing mixed colors into random tubes to clear immediate space leads to fragmented stacks that require extra moves to resolve.

Unburying Buried Blocks

When a target color is buried under three or four mismatched blocks, use your buffer tube to systematic extract the upper layers:

1. Move the top block of the clogged column into your open buffer tube.
2. Transfer any subsequent unwanted colors into secondary tubes that already share the same top color.
3. Repeat this process until the target color is fully exposed at the top of the column.
4. Shift the target color to its matching destination tube.
5. Consolidate the displaced buffer blocks back into available open columns.

Preventing Deadlocks During Final Cleanup

A deadlock occurs when every tube has a different color on top and no empty tubes remain to shuffle blocks. Late in levels 177 and 178, you will typically have two or three partially filled tubes left.

Consolidate remaining colors into the fewest tubes possible to preserve maneuverability. Avoid shifting blocks simply because they fit a temporary gap; every move should actively free a lower block or complete a single-color tube. Maintaining your buffer tube through the end ensures you can complete the final color placements cleanly without restarting.
