Plan your landing before each jump, and use spacing and timing to keep enemies from closing in. In the original Castlevania, the draft describes Simon’s jump as fixed once he leaves the ground, while sub-weapons consume Hearts.

Plan jumps before taking off

Choose a landing spot with clear space before you jump. If you cannot adjust your position midair, poor spacing can send you into a pit or an enemy. Pause to judge the gap and enemy positions instead of jumping before you know where you will land.

Time whip attacks and manage Hearts

The whip has a wind-up before it reaches full extension, so start an attack as an enemy approaches rather than waiting until it is already close. Keep enough distance to avoid being caught at close range during the attack.

Sub-weapons can let you attack without approaching as closely, but they consume Hearts. Use them selectively when an enemy is difficult to handle with the whip; save Hearts rather than spending them on every encounter.
