To execute an effective Dragon spam attack in Clash of Clans, clear both flanks of your entry lane to create a funnel, deploy standard Dragons in a wide line behind trap-testing Balloons, and use the Grand Warden's Eternal Tome to protect the core push through heavy defenses.
Army Composition and Tactical Roles
A Dragon spam army pairs high-hitpoint aerial tanks with targeted support units and burst spells to overpower dense base layouts.
| Role | Selection | Primary Tactical Function |
|---|---|---|
| Main Aerial Tank | Regular Dragons | Absorbs defensive fire, clears high-HP targets, leads the core assault |
| Trap Tester / Defense Sniper | Standard Balloons | Soaks Seeking Air Mines and destroys forward Archer Towers |
| Core Siege Delivery | Battle Blimp, Stone Slammer, or Siege Barracks | Transports Clan Castle troops deep into key targets or clears an entry flank |
| Core Spells | Rage Spell and Freeze Spell | Increases Dragon damage and temporarily disables high-threat splash or single-target beams |
| Defensive Disruption | Poison Spell & Invisibility or Skeleton Spell | Weakens defending Clan Castle troops and distracts single-target Inferno Towers |
| Perimeter Cleanup | Minions and Archers | Clears outlying structures and corners to prevent time fails |
Pack Freeze Spells to neutralize Single-Target Inferno Towers and the Monolith. Use Rage Spells over dense resource storages to accelerate building destruction, and keep a Poison Spell ready to handle defending Clan Castle troops.
Step-by-Step Attack Execution
1. Funnel the Flanks
Deploying Dragons across an entire side without preparation causes them to split around the perimeter rather than driving toward the Town Hall.
- Flank A: Deploy the Barbarian King and Archer Queen together on one side of your chosen entry lane. Allow them to clear exterior non-defensive buildings and exposed perimeter towers.
- Flank B: Deploy a single Dragon supported by a Balloon on the opposite flank, or drop a Siege Barracks to remove exterior structures.
- Let these flanking forces work for roughly thirty seconds to remove structural anchors so your primary air force can only path inward.
2. Release the Main Air Wave
Once both edges are stripped:
- Deploy your Dragons in a controlled, finger-spread line across the cleared opening rather than dropping them on a single tile. This prevents them from clumping together under splash damage from Scattershots or Multi-Target Inferno Towers.
- Immediately trail the Dragons with standard Balloons to absorb Seeking Air Mines.
- Deploy the Grand Warden and your chosen siege engine directly behind the center of the air line. Let the Balloons lead slightly ahead of the Warden to protect him from aerial traps.
- Activate the Grand Warden’s Eternal Tome as your air army hits the first concentrated defensive layer or enters range of multiple Air Defenses. This shields your siege engine and high-damage troops as they enter the base interior.
3. Neutralize Core Threats
Adjust your spell timing based on the major hazards encountered in the core:
- Air Sweepers: If an Air Sweeper faces your attack path, freeze it early to prevent your Dragons from getting pushed back and trapped under sustained fire. If possible, design your initial entry path to approach from behind the blower.
- Town Hall Giga Weapon: When Dragons reach the Town Hall, drop a Rage Spell over the structure and freeze its weapon. High damage under rage destroys the Town Hall quickly. Ensure lower-health Balloons are buffered by surviving Dragons so the Town Hall's destruction blast does not eliminate them.
- Defending Clan Castle Troops: Drop a Poison Spell directly along the path of opposing Clan Castle defenders to neutralize their attack speed and damage before they disrupt your push.
4. Deploy Late Heroes and Cleanup
Hold the Royal Champion in reserve until your primary air force engages the center of the base. Once the core defenses lock onto your Dragons, deploy the Royal Champion on a trailing flank to clear bypassed defense pockets.
Finally, place remaining Minions and Archers on outer corner structures, such as builder huts and isolated storages, to ensure the base clears before time runs out.

The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
Good guide for Clash of Clans players. The strategy part was useful.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
