The Hero Hall in Clash of Clans is an administrative building introduced at Town Hall 17 that lets you manage which four heroes join your attacking army. Because Town Hall 17 expands the hero roster to five—adding the Minion Prince alongside the Barbarian King, Archer Queen, Grand Warden, and Royal Champion—attacks remain capped at four heroes. The Hero Hall acts as the central interface to swap between them.

The building provides no defensive firepower, has no unique builder, and does not alter standard hero upgrade timers or costs.

Hero Hall Functions and Operational Limits

Tapping the Hero Hall opens an overview menu showing all unlocked heroes, their levels, assigned equipment, and upgrade statuses.

Its features and limitations include:

  • Offensive Roster Selection: You designate four active heroes for attacks and place one on the bench. Your selection updates your standard army deployment bar, quick-train presets, and Friendly Challenge rosters.
  • Upgrades Still Require Builders: Upgrading a hero still requires an available Home Village builder, regular resource costs (Elixir or Dark Elixir), and standard downtime.
  • No Combat During Upgrades: Heroes under construction cannot attack in standard multiplayer battles. If an active hero is upgrading, you must manually swap in an available benched hero to take a full four-hero squad into battle.
  • Hero Equipment Upgrades Remain at the Blacksmith: While the Hero Hall displays equipped gear, leveling up equipment still requires using Ore at the Blacksmith.

How the Hero Hall Interacts with Hero Altars

The Hero Hall governs offensive army composition, but it does not replace individual hero altars on your base map.

  • Offense (Hero Hall): Determines which four heroes appear in your deployment bar when you attack in multiplayer raids, Clan War Leagues, and Legend League.
  • Defense (Hero Altars): Determines where heroes stand guard on your village map. Benched heroes still defend your base as long as their individual altars are placed and they are not actively upgrading.

Because individual altars are still mandatory for village defense, the Hero Hall adds an extra structure to your base rather than consolidating existing altar footprints.

Base Layout Placement Strategy

Treat the Hero Hall strictly as an exterior non-defensive structure when designing your base layout. It possesses no weapons, auras, or resource storages, so placing it inside walled compartments wastes protected space.

  • Perimeter Buffering: Place the Hero Hall outside your exterior walls within range of core defenses like Scattershots, Ricochet Cannons, or Multi-Target Infernos. Its hitpoint pool stalls incoming ground units while defensive towers fire on them.
  • Funnel Disruption: Position the building alongside Army Camps or Barracks to create gaps in non-defensive structures. This disrupts pathing for attackers attempting to set clean lanes with Queen Walks, Root Riders, or Electro Dragons.
  • Siege Engine Avoidance: Avoid placing the Hero Hall in a direct line between common entry points and the Town Hall so it does not give free pathing value to straight-line siege machines like the Log Launcher.
