To beat dense, clumped base layouts in Clash of Clans, you must force your primary army directly into the concentrated defensive pocket rather than allowing troops to circle around it. Clustered designs group high-value structures—such as the Town Hall, Monolith, Scattershots, Ricochet Cannons, and Multi-Archer Towers—into a single sector. Because the rest of the village is left hollow with low-threat defenses, surviving this central burst ensures an easy cleanup.

Establish a Two-Sided Funnel

Clumped compartments have extremely high total building hitpoints. Without clear boundary cuts, primary units such as Root Riders, Bowlers, or Super Miners will naturally avoid the dense pocket and path along outer, low-HP perimeter trash. If your army splits, the central core picks units off from range without taking return damage.

Carve a narrow, direct entry lane before sending in your primary push:

  1. Set the anchor flank: Drop your Barbarian King supported by a Siege Barracks or Root Rider along one side to clear external structures and establish a rigid lane boundary.
  2. Trim the opposite flank: Deploy surgical units such as Sneaky Goblins, Baby Dragons, or an Archer Queen to remove exterior resource buildings on the opposite side.
  3. Drive through the opening: Deploy your main army only after both outer edges are cleared, leaving the defensive clump as the closest viable target.
  4. Cap setup time at 40 seconds: The core takes considerable time to chew through. Spending more than 40 seconds on your funnel risks running out of time during backend cleanup.

Time the Eternal Tome for Core Entry

In spread-out bases, the Grand Warden's Eternal Tome is often reserved specifically for the Town Hall blast. In a clumped base, incoming damage spikes immediately as soon as your frontline enters range of the cluster's combined Monolith beams, Scattershot blasts, and Ricochet Cannons.

Activate the Eternal Tome the moment your main squad steps into range of the defensive pocket. This absorbs the simultaneous opening burst that would otherwise wipe out your tanks and support troops. Drop a Rage Spell within the Tome's radius so your invulnerable units can dismantle the highest-threat defenses before the shield expires.

Maximize Spell Value on Clustered Buildings

Because key defenses stand shoulder-to-shoulder, area-of-effect spells capture significantly more value than they do on spaced layouts. A single Freeze Spell can frequently disable multiple signature defenses simultaneously.

SpellPriority TargetTactical Objective
Rage SpellMain squad entry corridorAccelerates troop movement and damage output through high-HP defensive structures.
Freeze SpellMonolith, Ricochet Cannons, Single InfernosResets lock-on damage ramps and halts rapid single-target fire during the breach.
Poison SpellClan Castle troops and defensive Hero clumpsNeutralizes high-threat defenders like Super Minions or Headhunters bunched in the core.
Overgrowth SpellPerimeter defenses or side compartmentsSuppresses flanking structures to prevent troops from wandering away from the main target.

Avoid deploying troops in a wide, horizontal line. Wide spreads cause units to enter the defense pocket piecemeal, allowing concentrated single-target fire to pick them off individually. Keep your strike team compact enough to stay under active spell rings without bunching so tightly that defensive splash traps eliminate your backline.
