Clash of Clans Super Dragon Attack Strategy and Army Guide

To execute a successful Super Dragon attack in Clash of Clans, carve a tight path into the base using your Barbarian King and Archer Queen on one flank and perimeter troops on the other, then send your Super Dragons behind a line of test Balloons directly into high-value defenses with Rage, Freeze, and the Grand Warden's Eternal Tome.

Recommended Army Composition

Because each Super Dragon costs 40 housing space, an army fits only four to five Super Dragons. The rest of your capacity must support pathing, trap clearance, and spell coverage.

Step 1: Establish the Hero Funnel

Super Dragons fail when perimeter structures distract them away from the village core. You must remove an entire outer edge before deploying the main air group.

Deploy the Barbarian King and Archer Queen together along one outer flank. Use abilities such as the Giant Gauntlet or Spiky Ball to dismantle exterior trash structures and defense compartments.
Clear the opposite perimeter edge using a Baby Dragon, Sneaky Goblins, or a pair of Balloons on isolated resource collectors.
Confirm that both edges are cleared so that the remaining structures leave a direct, narrow path into the base core.

Step 2: Deploy the Main Air Pack and Grand Warden

Once the funnel is open, launch your main offensive into the designated runway:

Deploy Balloons first: Spread a line of standard or Rocket Balloons across the entry corridor to soak up Seeking Air Mines and trigger air traps.
Deploy Super Dragons: Release all Super Dragons immediately behind the Balloons across a tight 3-to-4 tile front.
Follow with the Grand Warden: Deploy the Warden directly behind the dragons, set strictly to Air Mode.
Deploy the Siege Machine: Send a Battle Blimp or Stone Slammer along the central axis behind the dragons.
Activate Eternal Tome: Hold the Warden's ability until your main force approaches heavy incoming fire from the Eagle Artillery, Scattershots, or defensive hero clusters. Ensure your Siege Machine is inside the aura when the ability activates so it crosses toward the Town Hall undamaged.

Step 3: Manage Spell Placements

Air Sweepers, the Monolith, and the Town Hall are the primary threats to Super Dragons.

Rage Spells: Drop Rage Spells inside dense compartments to push Super Dragons through enemy heroes, the Clan Castle, and the Town Hall before incoming fire wears them down.
Air Sweepers: Scout Sweeper directions prior to attacking. Attack behind or perpendicular to their push cones whenever possible. If forced to fly into a Sweeper, freeze it the moment the dragons enter range to stop breath animations from resetting.
Freeze Spells: Reserve Freeze Spells for single-target Inferno Towers spooling up, active Monolith beams, and the Town Hall's defensive weapon or Giga Poison blast.
Poison Spell: Drop the Poison Spell over defensive Clan Castle troops once they aggro onto your frontline.

Step 4: Clean Up with the Royal Champion

Do not deploy the Royal Champion at the beginning of the raid. Wait until the main Super Dragon pack engages the core and draws the attention of central defenses.

Deploy the Royal Champion on the weaker back-end flank with equipment like the Seeking Shield paired with Haste Vial or Rocket Boots. She will eliminate remaining point defenses while surviving dragons clear leftover structures, preventing time-outs at the end of the attack. Reserving one or two minions for distant corner buildings guarantees a complete cleanup.
