The Legendary Ronin is an assassin troop exclusive to the Chinese regional version of Clash Royale. He excels at melting medium-health ground units with rapid melee strikes and converting defensive stops into fast counter-pushes across the bridge. Because he targets only ground units and attacks single targets at a time, deploying him directly into swarms or leaving him unsupported against air units will waste his burst damage.

Defensive Roles and Placement Strategy

Use the Ronin defensively as an opportunistic duelist against isolated attackers and backline ranged troops. His placement changes based on whether you are defending against a heavy ground threat or an offensive ranged unit.

  • Mini-Tanks and Dashers (Mini P.E.K.K.A, Knight, Bandit, Royal Ghost): Place the Ronin three tiles away from the river and one tile into the active lane. This center-pull pulls the attacker into range of both Princess Towers while the Ronin engages in melee combat.
  • Ranged Glass Cannons (Musketeer, Wizard, Electro Wizard): Let the unit cross the bridge first. Drop the Ronin directly on top of the ranged unit to eliminate their range advantage and remove them before they can deal heavy damage.
  • Win Conditions (Hog Rider, Ram Rider): Place the Ronin directly in front of your Princess Tower to body-block and attack immediately. Pair him with a card like Ice Spirit if you need to prevent the final hit on your tower.
  • Ground Swarms: Do not drop the Ronin directly into multi-unit swarms like Skeleton Army or Goblin Gang. Clear the distraction units with small spells first before committing him.

Bridge Pressure and Counter-Push Execution

Once the Ronin survives a defensive engagement, use his forward movement speed to threaten the opponent's Princess Tower. A lone Ronin at low health will rarely connect if the opponent has cheap ground distractions available, so support his counter-push based on your remaining elixir:

  1. Lead with a Tank: Place a mini-tank directly in front of the Ronin at the river to absorb incoming tower and troop fire.
  2. Support with Ranged Attackers: Deploy a ranged unit such as Dart Goblin or Little Prince behind him to take out reactive swarms.
  3. Punish Heavy Commitments: If your opponent overcommits elixir or plays a heavy tank like Golem in the back, drop the Ronin aggressively at the opposite bridge to punish them while their ground cycle is out of rotation.

Because the Ronin cannot target flying units and struggles against distributed numbers, build your deck with low-cost splash spells, solid anti-air defenses, and cheap cycle cards.

  • Small Spells (The Log, Zap): Clear Skeletons, Bats, and reset defensive targets to keep the Ronin focused on high-priority units.
  • Medium Spells (Arrows, Void): Eliminate spread-out bait units or flying hordes like Minions that target the Ronin from above.
  • Defensive Buildings (Cannon, Tombstone): Pull heavy beatdown tanks away from your towers, allowing the Ronin to dismantle supporting troops without taking heavy aggro.
  • Ranged Air Defense (Musketeer, Mega Minion, Phoenix): Provide essential air defense against Balloon and Lava Hound decks that bypass the Ronin entirely.

How to Counter an Opposing Ronin

When facing an opponent using the Ronin, do not drop unsupported glass cannons near the bridge. Instead, exploit his lack of area-of-effect damage:

  • Surround with Swarms: Drop Skeletons or Goblins directly on top of the Ronin in a surround formation. His single-target strikes take time to clear each model, allowing the Princess Tower to finish him for an elixir advantage.
  • Center Pulls: Use defensive buildings or cheap mini-tanks placed deep in the center of your side to lure him into fire from both Princess Towers.
