To survive the scripted betrayal sequence in Dawn's Edge, do not attempt to fight the guards or clear your name through dialog during the cutscene. Instead, conserve your healing items while reaching the execution grounds, then approach the Chaos Immortal Coffin (混沌仙棺) and select Initiate Awakening before the execution progress bar reaches 100 percent.
Navigating the Betrayal Sequence
The betrayal arc triggers when your character's brother frames them for parricide, revoking your royal titles and stripping your standard political and military resources. During this phase, the outcome is predetermined to force an exile arc. Trying to resist guards or select defensive dialogue options will fail to change the narrative branch.
During the transport phase, your status changes to "Prisoner of the Throne" (階下囚), restricting your inventory to basic items:
- Conserve Healing: Save all health-restoration items and defensive buffs for the path to the scaffold.
- Ignore Minor Fights: Do not waste consumable items on optional guard encounters during transit.
- Watch the Execution Timer: Move steadily toward the scaffold area to prevent the execution progress bar from filling.
Interacting with the Chaos Immortal Coffin
Once you reach the execution grounds, locate the Chaos Immortal Coffin at the center of the platform. The coffin acts as an interactive relic rather than standard scenery.
- Wait for the initial execution cutscene to finish.
- Approach the Chaos Immortal Coffin immediately.
- Select Initiate Awakening when the prompt appears.
If the execution progress bar reaches 100 percent before you activate the coffin, your character dies, resulting in a game-over screen. Successfully triggering the coffin summons the White-Clad Sword Immortal, grant your character an immediate power boost to break out of captivity.
Three-Sword Combat Technique
Summoning the White-Clad Sword Immortal unlocks the Three-Sword Technique (三劍斬諸敵), a three-stage combat skill designed to clear surrounding hostile units.
| Technique Stage | Ability Name | Primary Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | Law-Breaking Strike | Pierces invincibility frames and defensive barriers on elite guards and commanders. |
| Stage 2 | Multi-Target Execution | Delivers a wide-arc slash dealing heavy area-of-effect damage to clear surrounding enemies. |
| Stage 3 | Sovereign Restoration | Restores a portion of your Royal Authority meter to rebuild faction standing. |
Consequences and Post-Escape Priorities
Awakening the White-Clad Sword Immortal changes your character's long-term standing in Dawn's Edge:
- Diplomatic Status: Imperial Court factions will treat your character as a heretic, permanently raising trade costs and lowering alliance potential with standard royal factions.
- Ability Cooldown: The White-Clad Sword Immortal power spike is temporary. After the initial prison break, the summon enters a extended cooldown. Base sword mastery skills are required to survive standard combat encounters once the effect ends.
- Next Steps: Do not attempt to attack the capital immediately after escaping. Move to the border territories where imperial influence is low, gather basic crafting resources, and recruit defectors loyal to the former king to rebuild your power base.

I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Dawn's Edge articles next.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
