Defeating bosses in the beta build of DeadFront: Zombie Survival RPG requires constant mobility, ranged kiting, and strict weapon management. Bosses feature large health pools and damaging melee hits that punish stationary players. To survive, you must keep distance, manage target attention (aggro), and take advantage of boss attack animations.

Movement and Kiting Patterns

Boss movement speeds can equal or exceed your default sprint speed. Standing still or getting trapped in corners usually leads to immediate defeat.

  • Movement Geometry: Move continuously in wide circular or figure-eight patterns around open areas of the map. Avoid taking sharp corners near walls or tight clutter.
  • Speed Management: If the boss begins to close the distance, holster your weapon or rely on movement perks to regain distance.
  • Recoil Trade-off: Firing while sprinting increases weapon recoil and bullet spread. Aim for center-mass shots while moving quickly, and reserve headshots for brief moments when you have established a safe distance.

Weapon Swapping and Reload Sequences

Long reload animations leave you stationary and vulnerable. Managing your ammunition flow prevents the boss from catching up during a reload.

  1. Fire Short Bursts: Deliver 3 to 4 controlled shots while moving backward ("shoot-and-scoot") rather than emptying an entire magazine at once.
  2. Swap Immediately When Dry: When your primary weapon magazine empties, switch to your secondary weapon instantly instead of triggering a manual reload while running.
  3. Time Your Reloads: Reload your primary weapon only when behind map obstacles or during the boss's recovery period after an attack animation.

Positioning for Solo and Team Matches

How you control boss attention depends entirely on your party size:

  • Solo Positioning: Force the boss to navigate around large pillars, crates, or environmental debris. Breaking line of sight delays the boss's pathing, creating short windows to stop and fire accurately.
  • Team Aggro Management: When the boss locks onto one player, that player must focus exclusively on running and dodging. Remaining team members should take stable firing positions out of danger to target the boss's critical points.

Boss Attack Patterns and Enrage Thresholds

Bosses in the current beta build telegraph heavy attacks before swinging or slamming.

Watch for brief wind-up animations, such as a raised weapon or a pause before a heavy lunge or area-of-effect slam. Sidestep immediately when you spot these cues. When a boss's health drops into its final phase, expect its movement speed and attack frequency to increase. Save high-value ammunition and high-damage abilities for this final stretch to end the encounter quickly.
