To catch up quickly in Diablo Immortal, you must treat character level and Combat Rating (CR) as separate systems. Finishing the main story takes you to level 60, where the server Paragon experience bonus rapidly elevates your level. However, higher character levels do not automatically grant survival stats. You must actively target Helliquary raids, push solo Challenge Rifts, and gamble vendor gear to prevent severe combat penalties in higher difficulty tiers.
Clear the Main Story to Unlock Paragon Catch-Up
Your immediate objective is completing the main campaign questline. Core progression systems, Paragon trees, Hell difficulties, and higher-tier equipment drops remain inaccessible until you reach level 60 and finish the story milestones. Avoid open-world grinding before this point.
Once you hit level 60, trailing accounts receive an aggressive server Paragon experience multiplier that can exceed 800%. This bonus drives rapid Paragon leveling over a few play sessions. Do not rely on Paragon ranks alone to measure your combat effectiveness. Paragon levels primarily serve as requirement keys to equip higher-tier gear.
Understand the Combat Rating Gate
Combat Rating acts as the primary difficulty gate across all world tiers and dungeons. When your CR is lower than the recommended threshold for a zone, enemies receive heavy damage resistance and can eliminate your character in one or two strikes. Character levels do not reduce this penalty.
Before increasing your world difficulty, check the map or difficulty selector to compare your current CR against the required target. If your CR falls short, remain in the highest difficulty tier where you meet the threshold. Farming an appropriate tier yields materials and legendary gear faster than fighting penalized battles in an overtuned zone.
| Progression Metric | Primary Source | Practical Role |
|---|---|---|
| Paragon Level | Story quests, Bounties, Bestiary | Unlocks access to equip higher-tier gear |
| Combat Rating (CR) | Gear attributes, Helliquary, Gear upgrades | Eliminates tier damage penalties and enables survival |
| Secondary Stats | Normal Gems, Iben Fahd's Sanctum | Scales armor, armor penetration, and resistances |
| Legendary Essences | Legendary equipment drops | Modifies class skills and establishes build functions |
Bridge the CR Deficit with Helliquary Raids
Helliquary raids provide the fastest source of flat Combat Rating for newer characters. Defeating raid bosses rewards Scoria, Voidclaws, and Demonic Remains. Slotting Demonic Remains into your Helliquary provides permanent attribute gains independent of random equipment drops.
- Track weekly resets: Helliquary lockout timers reset twice each week, on Mondays and Thursdays.
- Seek raid carries: Higher-level players frequently run raids to finish their weekly tasks. Use the world recruitment channel or an active Warband to join these runs.
- Focus on survival: Stay safely positioned during raid encounters so you survive to collect high-tier Demonic Remains, which can immediately add significant CR.
Push Solo Challenge Rifts for Vendor and Gear Upgrades
Solo Challenge Rifts control the quality of items obtained from outside activities. Even if your Paragon level allows you to enter advanced Hell tiers, vendor purchases, bounties, and rift rewards drop gear scaled to earlier difficulties until you defeat the specific solo Challenge Rift milestone tied to that tier.
Clearing these milestones also rewards Enigmatic Crystals and Cryptic Crystals. These materials upgrade your secondary gear slots (hands, waist, feet, neck, and two rings), granting direct, flat bonuses to Life and Damage. Primary gear uses Scrap Materials and Enchanted Dust from standard salvage.
Daily Catch-Up Routine
Structure your playtime around guaranteed progression tasks rather than unstructured open-world exploration:
- Complete eight daily Bounties: Run these in batches to clear them efficiently within the same zones.
- Turn in Horadric Bestiary pages: Collect ten monster essences while doing bounties, turning them in for up to three reward claims each day to earn legendary drops and large experience gains.
- Run three Elder Rifts: Collect weekly Fading Embers to fund legendary gem crafting.
- Gamble at the Antiquities and Rarities vendor: Spend surplus gold with the vendor in Westmarch on Mystery Weapons and Mystery Armor. Under the server Paragon boost, these purchases scale to your current level and can quickly replace outdated equipment slots.
