Ji Qingyang (Shaohao) is a Dislyte Controller whose kit disables enemy non-basic abilities while dealing supplemental damage through Ashwing. To use him effectively, build him to act before opposing threat units take their turns, locking their second and third skills to force harmless basic attacks.

How Ji Qingyang Controls the Field

Unlike crowd controllers who rely on Stun, Freeze, or Sleep, Ji Qingyang specifically denies abilities with cooldowns. When an enemy is afflicted by his lockout:

  • No Burst Damage: Nukers cannot cast active area-of-effect abilities or high-multiplier ultimates.
  • No Defensive Utility: Supports cannot apply team-wide shields, invulnerability, or cleanses.
  • Forced Basic Attacks: Affected targets can only use their primary basic skill, substantially lowering incoming pressure on your team.

While keeping enemies locked down, Ji Qingyang applies supplemental damage via Ashwing. This passive offense chips away at enemy health pools without requiring your team to commit primary damage dealer turns just to soften up targets.

Stat Priorities and Equipment Sets

Ji Qingyang requires high initiative and debuff landing rates to function. If an enemy carry acts before your lockout lands or resists the status effect, your strategy collapses.

Stat / EquipmentPriorityPrimary Role
Speed (SPD)HighestSecures the first turn and cycles lockdowns before enemies can recover.
Accuracy (ACC)HighBypasses enemy Resistance to ensure non-basic locks consistently land.
HP% / DEF%ModerateProvides survivability against counterattacks and stray basic hits.
ATK% / CRITLowScales Ashwing chip damage after meeting speed and accuracy caps.
  • Wind Set (+25% SPD): The core four-piece set for winning speed contests and cycling your control turns faster.
  • Apollo Set (+25% ACC): The standard two-piece set to bypass high enemy Resistance pools.
  • Tyranny of Zeus (Alternative): A viable alternative four-piece set if your gear substats already hit the required speed thresholds, granting extra passive stun utility on multi-target hits.

Team Composition and Turn Order

Ji Qingyang needs an aggressive turn order to ensure his ability lockout is applied before opponents can act.

  1. Initiative / AP Push: Lead with an Action Point (AP) pusher or high Speed Lead like Tiye or Unas to guarantee Ji Qingyang moves first against opposing cleave setups.
  2. Lockdown Application: Ji Qingyang takes his turn immediately after the push, silencing enemy non-basic skills and triggering initial Ashwing attrition.
  3. Defense Break and Cleanup: Your secondary support lands defense breaks, allowing your primary damage dealers to eliminate locked targets with no fear of counter-cleave or reactive shields.

Matchups and Tactical Counters

Ji Qingyang excels against cooldown-reliant burst compositions and stall squads that rely heavily on support buffs. However, you must account for specific matchup counters:

  • Immunity Buffs: Pre-battle Immunity (such as Light Above sets) completely blocks his ability lock. Pair Ji Qingyang with a dispeller who moves directly before him to clear shields and immunities.
  • Basic Attack Specialists: Espers whose main damage output comes from their basic skill—including pursuit attackers and counterattackers—ignore the lockout restriction.
  • Passive Cleansers: Passive abilities that remove debuffs at the start of a target's turn will break Ji Qingyang's control prematurely. Avoid using him as a solo controller against teams stacked with passive cleanses.
