To survive maxed monster modifiers on a Huge map in Dome Keeper, shorten your early mining cycles, upgrade primary weapon tracking before wave three, and reserve two to four cobalt strictly for hull repairs. Extreme monster modifiers compress the countdown between hostile waves while increasing enemy speed and health, making extended mining expeditions fatal if you are caught away from the defense console.

Shorten Early Mining Cycles and Transit

Compressed timers between waves leave almost no room for long transit times. Venturing deep without upgrades will strand you in the mine shafts when an attack begins.

  1. Dig strictly vertical shafts near the dome: Keep your first two mining runs restricted to the top two rock layers to secure immediate iron deposits.
  2. Prioritize Drill Tier 1, then Carry Capacity: Upgrading drill strength lets you excavate soft rock instantly, while carry capacity lets you haul three to four iron chunks upward without crippling movement speed penalties.
  3. Drop cargo when the wave timer enters the final quarter: If the attack countdown reaches its final quarter, drop any heavy resources at a shaft junction and fly back immediately. Manning the dome station early is essential to prevent immediate hull damage.

Upgrade Weapon Tracking to Counter Fast Swarms

Because extreme modifiers increase alien movement speed and hit points, standard weapon agility cannot track accelerated flyers. If you are operating the Laser Dome, aim upgrades must take precedence over auxiliary utilities or shields.

  • Tracking Speed Tier 1 (Mandatory by Wave 3): Allows the laser beam to keep pace with accelerated dive-bombers and fast aerial enemies before they impact the glass.
  • Beam Power Tier 1: Increases damage output enough to eliminate armored walkers and ground swarms before they reach the dome perimeter.
  • Secondary Stun or Burst: Staggers bulky, high-health charging monsters, buying time for the main beam to burn down targets.
  • Pre-aim before spawn: Take your position at the weapon controls at least two seconds before the wave starts. Position your reticle toward incoming radar signatures to engage fast flyers immediately.

Upgrade Priority and Cobalt Management

Amplified enemy damage means hull integrity can collapse in seconds. Avoid spending early cobalt on non-essential gadget upgrades; keep a reserve on hand for direct emergency repairs.

PhasePriority UpgradesPrimary Objective
Early (Waves 1–4)Drill Tier 1, Beam Tracking Tier 1Clear upper layers quickly and track fast flyers.
Mid (Waves 5–9)Beam Power Tier 2, Jetpack Speed Tier 2Melt armored units and cut transit time between strata.
Emergency Reserve2–4 Cobalt Held in ReserveRestore hull integrity when heavy hits pierce shields.
Late (Wave 10+)Shield Durability, OverchargeAbsorb burst damage from projectile spitters and elites.

If you find the Shield gadget, use iron to enhance passive shield absorption before investing cobalt into active invulnerability abilities. This preserves raw cobalt for direct dome patching when high-damage enemies break through.

Automate Logistics and Secure the Relic

Deep excavation on a Huge map requires automated transport gadgets to counteract long return trips. Digging below the third layer without logistical support guarantees you will either abandon mined resources or arrive late to defend the dome.

  • Deploy the Teleporter: Use the Teleporter to mine until the final seconds of a countdown, then warp directly back to the controls when the siren sounds. Upgrade its tether to ferry mined resources upward automatically.
  • Deploy the Lift: If using the Lift, install carry chains and speed orbs immediately so iron and water are hauled up the central shaft while you continue digging.
  • Target elites first: In late-game defense sequences, eliminate high-velocity spitters and flying bombers first. Slower, bulky ground units can strike the shield while you destroy ranged threats, after which you can focus downward fire on the remaining crawlers.
  • Delay Relic extraction: When you find the Relic chamber in the bedrock, do not activate the extraction winch immediately. Spend a full preparation cycle repairing the dome to near-full health, stockpile cobalt at the console, and verify your logistical path is clear before triggering the final sequence.
