In DRAGON BALL LEGENDS, execute a blast cancel by swiping up on the screen while your character is actively firing a Blast Arts card. This buffers a forward dash that cuts short the card's normal end-lag recovery the moment the final Ki blast releases. Canceling this animation restores your mobility immediately, allowing you to perform a Vanishing Step to dodge an incoming counterattack, initiate tap attacks, or continue offensive pressure.
Step-by-Step Blast Cancel Inputs
A blast cancel relies on input buffering during the attack animation rather than rapid swiping.
- Activate a Blast Arts card: Fire the card from mid-range or long range.
- Buffer a forward dash: While your character is shooting Ki blasts, swipe up once on the screen. A single upward swipe queues the dash to trigger on the earliest possible frame after the attack ends.
- Watch the opponent: Track the opponent for an exclamation mark and flash, signaling a Vanishing Step.
- Choose your follow-up:
- If the opponent vanishes and attacks immediately, swipe left or right out of your forward dash to perform your own Vanishing Step.
- If the opponent vanishes and hesitates, tap the screen during the dash to execute a tap attack.
- If the blast volley connects, queue another Arts card to combo.
Swiping left or right while your character is shooting will not cancel the card. The game requires a forward dash before any lateral evasion or tap input becomes available.
Follow-Up Decisions After Canceling
Canceling the recovery of a Blast Arts card forces an opponent who dodged to guess your next action.
| Opponent Action | Recommended Follow-Up | Outcome |
|---|---|---|
| Immediate counterattack | Swipe left or right to vanish | You evade their attack card and gain combo priority. |
| Delayed attack (waiting for your vanish) | Tap attack out of the forward dash | You interrupt their timing before they can start an attack. |
| Sidestepping | Activate a Strike Arts or Blast Arts card | You catch them during their sidestep recovery animation. |
| Standing still | Let the dash end without inputting an action | Neutral resets, leaving the opponent with a depleted Vanish Gauge. |
Range Restrictions and Risks
Blast canceling does not protect you equally at every battlefield distance:
- Long range: Ki blast travel time provides the widest window to dash-cancel and react to counterattacks.
- Mid-range: Requires immediate buffering, as faster Strike Arts cards close the distance quickly.
- Close range: Near-zero projectile travel time prevents the dash cancel from opening before an opponent's counter hits. Avoid blast canceling at point-blank range.
Ki Consumption
A standard Blast Arts card costs 29 to 30 Ki. Throwing a blast card solely to bait a Vanishing Step spends nearly a third of your base Ki pool. Confirm you have enough remaining Ki to execute a full combo if your bait successfully creates an opening.
Blast Armor Counter
Characters using Strike Arts equipped with Blast Armor do not need to dodge your blast. Blast Armor allows units to charge straight through Ki blast projectiles without hit-stun, hitting you before the forward dash cancel can finish. Check the opposing team's roster before attempting blast cancel baits against Blast Armor units.
