Unique Counter Gauges in DRAGON BALL LEGENDS automatically intercept enemy attacks, halt offensive momentum, and grant follow-up rewards. Defeating them requires identifying whether a defender relies on a passive stance trigger or a mid-combo breaker, then exhausting their gauge using basic tap actions, drop combos, or uncounterable attacks.
How Counter Gauges Function
Unlike stat-boosting passive gauges, a Counter Gauge reacts directly to incoming enemy offensive actions once filled. Depending on the unit's kit, a counter gauge operates under one of two conditions:
- Passive Stance Counters: Activate when the character is idle, sliding, or moving in neutral spacing without being trapped in hitstun. When the opponent initiates an eligible Arts card, the gauge consumes its meter to negate the attack and create an immediate opening.
- Mid-Combo Breakers: Activate while the character is actively receiving damage during an enemy combo. These gauges break the attacker's card sequence, consume gauge meter, and immediately reset neutral or grant priority to the defender.
Prominent Counter Gauge Units and Triggers
Activation limits and follow-up rewards vary significantly across top counter-gauge fighters.
| Character | Counter Type | Trigger Condition | Maximum Triggers | Activation Reward |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| ULTRA Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta | Mid-Combo Breaker | Strike, Blast, Tackle, and Special Arts while taking damage | 3 times | Restores Vanishing Gauge; draws Special Move or Ultimate Arts |
| ULTRA Super Saiyan 2 Gohan | Stance & Forward Charge | Strike Arts, Tackle, and forward-charging Special Moves | 2 times | Draws Special Move Card; nullifies enemy cover change |
| ULTRA Super Janemba | Passive Melee Intercept | Melee Strike Arts and charging attacks while idle or neutral | Gauge-dependent | Draws Ultimate Arts; cancels enemy buffs |
| ULTRA Gogeta Blue | Passive Ranged Intercept | Blast Arts and ranged Special Moves while idle or neutral | Gauge-dependent | Draws Special Move Card; nullifies unfavorable elements |
Tactics to Neutralize Enemy Counter Gauges
Blindly initiating standard Arts cards against a primed gauge guarantees a counter-attack. Use these combat adjustments to safely bypass or deplete enemy gauges.
Test Neutral with Low-Risk Inputs
Passive stance counters like those on ULTRA Super Janemba and ULTRA Gogeta Blue only intercept specific Arts cards. Do not throw raw Strike or Blast cards at full-gauge neutral defenders. Instead, test their positioning with single Tap Blasts, Quick Dashes, and Tap Attacks. These basic physical maneuvers do not trigger stance counters, forcing the opponent to either take chip damage or spend their Vanishing Gauge manually.
Execute Drop Combos on Combo-Breaking Gauges
When fighting ULTRA Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta, continuing a standard combo into his full gauge triggers an automatic interruption. To play around this, delay your card input to drop the combo intentionally right before his gauge activates. Resetting hitstun allows you to bait an expected defensive switch or catch the opponent before their automatic save sequence registers.
Exploit Uncounterable Windows and Usage Caps
Counter gauges cannot stop every offensive tool:
- Initiate Rising Rush: Standard counter gauges do not intercept Rising Rush. When an enemy gauge is full, launching a Rising Rush bypasses the counter entirely and secures full damage.
- Use Non-Charging Ultimates: Non-charging Ultimate or Awakened Arts bypass stance counters that specifically trigger on charging moves.
- Count Trigger Limits: Units such as ULTRA Super Saiyan 4 Gogeta (three triggers) and ULTRA Super Saiyan 2 Gohan (two triggers) have hard limits on their gauges. Track these triggers throughout the match; once depleted, the unit loses its primary safety net for the rest of the battle.

Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
This saved me time in the early game.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
