To outplay Mastered Ultra Instinct (MUI) Goku in DRAGON BALL LEGENDS, stop initiating with forward-charging Strike Arts or long-range Blast Arts while he is standing idle. Instead, drain his Unique Gauge using low-commitment tap attacks and forward tackles. Once his gauge is depleted or you activate Cover Change Nullification, switch to aggressive offensive combos to take advantage of his fragile defensive stats.
How MUI Goku's Unique Gauge Works
MUI Goku disrupts the standard neutral game by automatically dodging incoming Strike Arts and Blast Arts while standing still or floating. Unlike a standard Vanishing Step, this automatic evasion functions as an active counter against forward-charging attacks. Triggering his counter inflicts damage on your character and resets the match to neutral.
Because of this mechanic, many opponents play passively by floating backward and waiting for you to commit to an Arts card. Attacking directly into an active gauge wastes your Arts cards and awards the opponent free chip damage. His gauge is finite, however, and depletes each time he is forced to dodge or counter.
Safely Draining the Unique Gauge
The safest way to strip MUI Goku of his defensive safety net is using neutral tap actions. Tap shots, quick dashes into tap attacks, and forward tackles deplete his meter without triggering his damaging counter animation.
| Action Type | Gauge Impact | Risk Level | Effective Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single Tap Shot | Chips gauge steadily | Very Low | Mid to Long Range |
| Forward Tackle | Drains a large gauge chunk | Moderate | Mid Range |
| Quick Dash + Tap | Forces an immediate defensive reaction | Moderate | Mid Range |
| Direct Strike or Blast | Triggers full counter-attack and resets neutral | Extreme | Never use into an active gauge |
Flipping the tempo begins at mid-range:
- Fire single tap shots from mid or long range. If the opponent stands still, chained tap shots quickly empty their meter without putting you in combo danger.
- Close in with a forward tackle once you establish spacing. A tackle either burns the rest of his Unique Gauge or forces the opponent to use their actual Vanishing Step.
- Watch for panic sidestepping. When an MUI Goku player sees their gauge drop below half, they often begin rhythmic sidesteps to avoid hits. Delay your Arts cards slightly to catch them during side-step recovery frames.
Managing Dokabaki Impact Clashes
MUI Goku holds a distinct mechanical advantage during Dokabaki Impacts. If both players activate Strike Arts at the same time and achieve identical clash scores, MUI Goku automatically wins the clash.
To avoid giving up free combos:
- Avoid simultaneous 50/50 Strike Arts challenges from neutral if you suspect the opponent is waiting to tap a Strike card on reaction.
- Initiate with Blast Armor units or wait for an explicit sidestep animation before committing your Strike cards.
- Prioritize timing over speed if a Dokabaki Impact occurs. Because ties default to MUI Goku, rushing your tap with a sub-optimal score guarantees a lost clash.
Countering Cover Changes with Beast Gohan and Drop Combos
MUI Goku frequently disrupts offensive momentum from the bench using a special cover change that rescues allies from both Strike and Blast Arts. You can bypass this defensive tool with two methods:
- Field units with Cover Change Nullification: Offensive powerhouses like Beast Gohan counter MUI Goku effectively. Beast Gohan brings elemental BLU typing advantage, high stat scaling, and reliable Cover Change Nullification upon battlefield entry. When cover nullification is active, MUI Goku cannot switch in to break your chain, allowing you to quickly defeat him due to his weak base defenses.
- Execute drop combos: If your current fighter lacks cover nullification and you expect an MUI Goku switch-in, briefly pause for a fraction of a second before queuing your next Arts card. Dropping the combo resets the sequence, bypassing his cover rescue animation and catching him with unprotected damage.
