In DRAGON BALL Z DOKKAN BATTLE, you can change an eligible character's card illustration directly from their character details screen without altering their combat effectiveness. Alternate art is purely cosmetic: swapping illustrations does not modify your unit's stats, passive skills, link skills, categories, or in-battle combat sprites.
How to Equip Alternate Card Art
Alternate illustrations are available only for designated celebration headliners and select legacy units. Once you have awakened a unit to the required tier, follow these steps to switch illustrations:
- Open the Team menu from the main screen and tap Character List.
- Select an eligible character to open their full profile.
- Tap the artwork toggle icon located next to the character portrait.
- Browse the unlocked illustrations, highlight your preferred art, and confirm your selection.
- Check your team deck or user profile to confirm the portrait updated.
The card will retain your selected illustration across your box, team loadouts, and profile showcase until you manually change it again. Pulling duplicate copies from summons will not reset the illustration you set on your primary card.
Combat Impact and Stat Retention
Switching to an alternate art piece has no effect on gameplay or team synergy. The game strictly isolates visual customization from underlying unit data:
| Card Element | Affected by Alternate Art? | In-Game Behavior |
|---|---|---|
| Base Stats | No | Retains full Level 120 or 150 stats, Hidden Potential boosts, and Skill Orbs. |
| Passive Skill | No | Executes all post-awakening kit effects and condition triggers normally. |
| Leader & Link Skills | No | Retains identical category alignments and active link skill partners. |
| Super Attacks | No | Retains standard damage multipliers, secondary effects, and level scaling. |
| In-Battle Sprites | No | Battle animations and combat sprites match the unit's actual awakening state. |
Because combat calculations are untouched, you can switch card visuals freely without weakening your performance in high-difficulty modes such as Red Zone or Super Battle Road.
Stickers and Account Rules
Keep the following visual and roster rules in mind when customizing your cards:
- Special Stickers: If you applied a Special Sticker to an awakened unit, shifting to an alternate art piece adjusts the visual particle track to fit the new pose. If a specific alternate variant does not support sticker animations, the sticker remains stored on the card and reactivates whenever you switch back to a compatible illustration.
- Friend Support: Your active Friend Support character displays your chosen alternate art to other players in friend lists and stage selection screens.
- Awakening Restrictions: You cannot equip high-tier alternate illustrations (such as LR artwork) on an unawakened SSR base card. You must complete the required Dokkan Awakening first.
- Reversal and Upgrades: If you perform a Reverse Dokkan Awakening on a unit, your alternate art settings are preserved and will automatically reactivate once the unit is re-awakened.
- Box Filtering: Filtering your character box by rarity, type, or category evaluates the unit's true functional tier, not the cosmetic art assigned to the card.
