To safely clear Storyline mission books in a Tech 6 (T6) cruiser, warp to the combat encounter at a distance of 70 to 100 kilometers, immediately burn away from the spawn beacon to string out hostile ships, and destroy fast warp-disrupting frigates before engaging larger hulls. Storyline deadspace pockets do not despawn if you leave, allowing you to warp out to a station, repair, and return to finish surviving targets.

Warp-In and Fleet Separation

Never warp into a Storyline mission beacon at zero kilometers. Dropping into the center of the hostile spawn allows elite frigates to immediately activate warp scramblers and stasis webifiers, pinning your cruiser under concentrated battleship and cruiser fire.

  1. Set your warp-in distance manually between 70 km and 100 km from the encounter beacon.
  2. Double-tap empty space directly away from the hostile fleet immediately upon landing.
  3. Activate your Afterburner or MicroWarpDrive to establish a straight retreat vector.

This retreat vector forces enemy ships to pursue you in a straight line, naturally separating the fleet based on individual hull speeds:

Hostile Ship ClassApproximate SpeedTactical Behavior
Elite Frigates / Interceptors1,800+ m/sSprints ahead; reaches weapon range within 20–30 seconds
Cruisers / Destroyers700–1,100 m/sTrails behind the frigate vanguard by roughly 30–45 km
Battlecruisers / Battleships200–500 m/sRemains 60–90 km behind your retreat vector

Once the frigates outpace the heavier ships by 15 to 20 kilometers, you can engage them without taking heavy damage from the main fleet.

Target Prioritization

Target selection in a T6 hull must prioritize electronic warfare threats over high-damage battleships. Ships equipped with tackle modules are the only enemies capable of preventing your retreat.

  • Primary Targets: Elite frigates and interceptors. Destroy warp scramblers and warp disruptors first to protect your ability to warp away. If flying a missile cruiser like the Caracal Navy Issue, fire rapid light or heavy missiles; if using a drone cruiser like the Vexor Navy Issue, deploy light or medium drones matched to enemy resistance weaknesses.
  • Secondary Targets: Destroyers and cruisers carrying stasis webifiers or tracking disruptors.
  • Lowest Priority: Battlecruisers and battleships. Because large-caliber turrets have poor tracking against a moving cruiser at long range, distant battleships pose minimal lethal threat once tackle is removed.

Managing Grid Resets and Station Bailing

A conservative T6 strategy relies on resetting the grid whenever shield, armor, or capacitor levels become unstable.

  • Maintain alignment: Keep your ship aligned toward a celestial object, stargate, or nearby station while maintaining your kite.
  • Bailout threshold: If shields or armor drop below 30%, or if unexpected tackle pins you, overheat propulsion or defensive hardeners, eliminate the closest tackler, and warp to your aligned destination.
  • Dock and repair: Land at a local station to repair hull damage and recharge your capacitor.
  • Return at range: Warp back to the mission deadspace at 70 to 100 km. Wrecked enemy ships remain cleared, while surviving hostiles reset near the central beacon, letting you repeat the separation sequence safely.

Flight Control and Capacitor Discipline

Do not use the automated "Orbit" command during Storyline encounters. Orbiting an enemy ship causes your autopilot to loop back toward the main hostile pack, collapsing your transversal velocity and drawing your cruiser into the range of incoming battleship fire. Instead, fly manually by double-tapping empty space to travel at an oblique angle away from the enemy fleet, maintaining speed and tracking disruption.

Manage capacitor draw carefully:

  • Avoid running defensive repairers continuously alongside propulsion modules.
  • Pulse your shield boosters or armor repairers only after absorbing incoming hits.
  • Deactivate your propulsion module once you establish a safe distance from incoming battlecruisers.
  • Keep total capacitor energy above 40% at all times to ensure sufficient power to initiate an emergency warp.
