To secure player-versus-player (PvP) kills in low-security space in EVE Echoes, initiate combat only away from stargates and stations, fit mid-slot electronic warfare to prevent the target from warping away, and set a manual orbit that mitigates incoming turret tracking.
Low-Sec Gate Guns and Timers
High-security systems (0.5 to 1.0) prevent non-consensual weapon locks entirely. Low-security systems (0.1 to 0.4) allow open PvP, but automated sentry guns guard stargates and NPC station perimeters.
Initiating an unprovoked attack near a gate or station immediately flags your ship and draws gate gun fire. Gate guns deal massive omni-damage with nearly perfect tracking and extreme range, which will destroy light hulls in seconds.
- Safe hunting locations: Hunt targets inside asteroid belts, cosmic anomalies, and planetary customs offices where gate guns are not present.
- Weapon combat timers: Firing on an innocent pilot flags you with a combat timer. This timer blocks you from jumping through gates, docking, or logging out safely.
- Grid avoidance: Do not warp directly to an active stargate while carrying a criminal or weapon timer, as local sentries will immediately open fire upon your landing.
Essential Tackle Modules
Damaged ships will align and warp away as soon as their defenses fail unless you immobilize their warp drives. A functional tackle setup pairs warp disruption with speed control in your mid slots.
| Tackle Module | Engagement Range | Core Combat Effect | Drawbacks and Limitations |
|---|---|---|---|
| Warp Disruptor | Long (20–24+ km) | Applies 1 warp disruption point; stops standard warp escapes | High capacitor draw; does not shut down enemy Microwarpdrives |
| Warp Scrambler | Short (8–12 km) | Applies 2 warp disruption points; shuts down active Microwarpdrives | Requires close proximity; puts you in range of short-range brawlers |
| Stasis Webifier | Short to Mid (10–14 km) | Significantly reduces the target's sub-warp flight speed | Ineffective if the target pulls range beyond the web's reach |
Warp disruptors keep you safe outside your target's close-range weapon battery, but they permit the enemy to run a Microwarpdrive (MWD) to burn out of range. A warp scrambler disables an MWD instantly. Combining a scrambler with a stasis webifier arrests the target's momentum, dropping their transversal velocity so your weapons apply full damage.
Range Control and Propulsion
Approaching an opponent in a straight line produces zero angular velocity, allowing their turrets to hit your ship with full tracking accuracy. To speed tank and survive incoming fire, establish a manual orbit tailored to your weapon range.
- Afterburner (AB): Delivers a modest velocity increase without ballooning your signature radius. Afterburners continue running even when struck by hostile warp scramblers.
- Microwarpdrive (MWD): Offers high straight-line velocity for closing distance or disengaging, but it substantially enlarges your ship's signature radius. This makes you easier to lock and far more vulnerable to incoming damage while active.
- Close brawling: When piloting a fast frigate against medium or large turrets, maintain a tight orbit between 500 meters and 2 kilometers. This tracks inside the opponent's weapon traverse speed, causing their heavier shots to miss.
Target Selection and Engagement Sequence
Before decloaking or activating tackle modules, assess the target's hull class and current activity:
- Check for PVE vulnerability: Look for ships running asteroid belts or combat anomalies. Targets actively taking damage from pirate NPCs are already expending capacitor on local repairers and dividing their attention.
- Evaluate ship matchups: Fast frigates can dismantle larger cruisers by staying beneath their turret tracking. However, break off immediately if the target launches light combat drones or rapid-light missile launchers, which counter light hulls effectively.
- Manage capacitor consumption: Running an active armor repairer or shield booster alongside tackle modules and propulsion will drain your energy quickly. Keep your warp disruptor or scrambler running continuously, but pulse your propulsion and cycling defenses only when necessary to preserve capacitor stability.
- Prepare an escape plan: Pre-align your ship toward a distant celestial body during combat. If your capacitor fails, your tackle drops, or defense thresholds collapse, initiate warp immediately to preserve your hull.

Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
Good guide for EVE Echoes players. The strategy part was useful.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
