To survive and react quickly in EVE Echoes, you must strip away screen clutter and rebuild the default interface. The factory layout displays all celestial objects, neutral ships, and broadcast alerts at once, making it difficult to select targets or escape ambushes. Set up dedicated overview presets, configure radial menu shortcuts, adjust autopilot routing parameters, and organize module controls to keep critical actions accessible.
Custom Overview Presets
The default overview shows every entity simultaneously, leading to misclicks and input delay in crowded space. Create at least three distinct profiles to handle combat, navigation, and resource gathering independently.
| Overview Preset | Display Entities | Filtered Out |
|---|---|---|
| Combat / PvP | Hostile pilots, pirates, combat drones | Stargates, planets, asteroid belts, stations |
| Travel / Hauling | Stargates, dockable stations, Interbus stations, bookmarks | Ships, combat sites, wrecks, celestial bodies |
| Harvesting / Mining | Ores, gas clouds, compression arrays | NPC hostiles, stations, empty wrecks |
To configure the combat profile:
- Open Overview Settings.
- Remove neutral stations, customs offices, planets, moons, and asteroid clusters.
- Retain only hostile fleet members, criminal pilots, neutral ships in low-security or null-security space, and deployed combat drones.
For the travel profile, invert these filters so the overview lists only warp destinations and escape routes. When jumping into a hostile gate camp, this separation allows you to view warp-out points instantly on your travel tab while the combat tab isolates the tackle ships attempting to lock you down.
HUD Layout and Radial Menu Controls
Tapping small overview text during combat slows down module activation. Configure gesture-based flight commands and group active modules to streamline your control scheme:
- Reposition Target Brackets: Place locked target brackets directly adjacent to primary weapon clusters to minimize thumb travel distance across your screen.
- Assign Radial Gestures: Set primary tap-and-hold radial actions to immediate flight commands: Approach, Orbit at Preset, Keep at Range, and Warp To.
- Group Weapon Modules: Combine identical weapon turrets or missile launchers into a single control group. Grouping condenses your offensive footprint to a single tap, leaving screen space open for active defense modules such as armor repairers, shield boosters, and afterburners.
Safe Autopilot Routing Rules
The navigation engine defaults to the shortest mathematical path, routing ships through low-security (0.4 to 0.1) and lawless null-security (0.0 to -1.0) systems without considering hostile activity. Adjust your routing rules in the star map settings before hauling cargo or flying expensive hulls:
- Switch Pathfinding to Safer: Toggle route preference from Shortest to Safer. This prioritizes high-security space (1.0 to 0.5) and avoids lower security bands whenever alternative routes exist.
- Maintain an Avoidance List: Blacklist known gate-camp systems and high-traffic nullsec entrance pipes. The autopilot routes around blacklisted systems even if the detour adds multiple jumps.
- Increase Default Warp-In Distances: When traveling through contested space without a cloaking module, change the default arrival distance from 0 meters to 10–20 kilometers. Landing off the gate beacon helps keep you out of range of smartbombing battleships and interdiction spheres.
- Avoid AFK Autopilot in Contested Space: Autopilot lands your ship several kilometers away from stargates before burning toward them to initiate the jump. Never use unattended autopilot in lowsec or nullsec, as this slow burn leaves you vulnerable to warp scramblers and stasis webs.
Manual Piloting and Tactical Tracking
Using the automated orbit command locks your ship into a predictable flight ring that brawlers can counter. Enable tactical camera tracking and practice manual burns to control engagements:
- Double-Tap Flight: Double-tap open space to steer manually. Breaking automated orbits allows you to adjust your transversal velocity relative to incoming turret fire, reducing incoming damage while pulling targets out of their optimal range.
- Tactical Overlay Display: Keep the tactical overlay enabled to view distance spheres and weapon falloff limits. Tracking these boundaries ensures your weapons remain at effective ranges while preventing kite ships from dictating distance.
Cargo and Hangar Management
Disorganized cargo bays and station hangars delay resupply times and risk the accidental loss of expensive items:
- Sort by Type and Value: Use the inventory filters to sort items by Type, Volume, and Estimated Value rather than alphabetical order.
- Designate Regional Hubs: Use regional Interbus Trade Centers (ITCs) as primary staging bases instead of scattering assets across scattered outpost stations.
- Lock Essential Fleet Items: Mark structural repair paste, capacitor boosters, and reserve fuel as Locked in your personal hangar. This prevents them from being batch-sold or repackaged during routine inventory cleanups.

This helped me understand strategy much better.
Good guide for EVE Echoes players. The strategy part was useful.
Nice guide. I am checking the other EVE Echoes articles next.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
