In Flick Shot Rogues, controlling your character's post-impact landing spot is just as important as hitting your target. Because combat is turn-based, you should evaluate your launch trajectory and calculate expected recoil before committing to a flick.
How Impact Physics and Recoil Work
When a hero strikes an enemy or wall, physics-based recoil pushes them away from the impact point rather than stopping them instantly. Predicting this bounce prevents your character from coming to rest inside enemy attack lines or next to high-damage mobs.
- Wall Impacts: Striking a target with a solid wall directly behind it produces a short, predictable bounce. This keeps your character relatively stationary and safe in controlled positions.
- Open-Space Impacts: Hitting enemies in open areas results in a wider, more erratic recoil arc. Use high-momentum hits in open areas only when you verify that the surrounding landing space is free of hazards.
Trajectory Planning and Defensive Positioning
Before launching a character, use your turn to check for "dead zones"—tiles where recoil would leave your hero stranded next to dangerous enemies or environmental traps.
If a hero is boxed in by enemies, aim a ricochet off a side wall instead of firing directly into the center of the room. The angle allows you to hit your target while propelling your hero away from the center of danger.
In narrow corridors or tightly packed rooms, switch to lower-force "short flicks." Reducing your launch speed decreases your recoil distance, making it easier to navigate around hazards like spike pits or fire walls without taking avoidable chip damage before boss fights like the Frogomancer.
Pre-Launch Target Selection Checklist
Evaluate every prospective flick using these tactical positioning factors:
- Hazard Clearance: Does the predicted recoil path cross active enemy attack lines or environmental traps?
- Recoil Dampening: Is there a nearby room boundary or wall you can bounce off to limit backward travel?
- Positioning vs. Damage: Is taking a safer, lower-damage shot on a secondary target better than committing to an aggressive strike that leaves your character exposed?

This guide answered the exact question I had.
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
