To build a diamond farm in Forge of Empires, start a city on a secondary world, advance it to the Iron Age, and fill available grid space with Wishing Wells and Fountains of Youth.
Because Diamonds pool into a single account-wide balance across all worlds, any Diamonds collected from secondary cities are immediately available to spend on your primary world. Other resources—such as coins, supplies, Forge Points, and inventory goods—remain bound to the specific world where they are produced.
How Well Payouts Work
Wishing Wells and Fountains of Youth share the same production mechanics:
- Both operate on a 24-hour collection timer.
- Each collection pulls from a weighted loot table with an estimated 1% chance to yield 50 Diamonds.
- Diamond collections cannot be plundered by neighbors.
Because a single well yields Diamonds roughly once every 100 days, reliability depends on building density.
| Setup Scale | Total Wells Across Worlds | Expected Daily Payout |
|---|---|---|
| Starter (1 secondary world) | 20–30 | 10–15 Diamonds |
| Intermediate (2–3 secondary worlds) | 60–100 | 30–50 Diamonds |
| Mature (5+ secondary worlds) | 200+ | 100+ Diamonds |
Why Park in the Iron Age
Stop your technological advancement in the Iron Age. Progressing into later eras introduces higher production costs and complex quests that slow down farm maintenance.
Staying in the Iron Age provides several operational advantages:
- Unlocks the Guild Expedition, Friends Tavern, and Antiquities Dealer.
- Keeps Guild Expedition encounters easy enough to clear via auto-battle with low military boosts.
- Ensures seasonal event quests require cheap productions, such as rapid completions in low-era Blacksmiths.
- Keeps negotiation costs negligible by only consuming early-era goods.
While moving to the Early Middle Age or Late Middle Age opens more land expansions, it also increases event difficulty and negotiation expenses. For most farming worlds, the Iron Age offers the lowest upkeep.
Sourcing Wishing Wells and Fountains of Youth
Acquiring the necessary buildings requires targeting specific game modes:
- Seasonal Events: Save all accumulated event currency until a Wishing Well, Wishing Well Shrink Kit, or well fragment appears as the Daily Special or milestone prize. Spend your full event balance on those specific days.
- Guild Expedition: Complete encounters through Level 4 to earn Fountains of Youth directly from stage rewards.
- Temple of Relics: Construct this Great Building to enable Jade Relic spawns throughout the Guild Expedition map, which can drop Fountains of Youth and renovation tools.
- Antiquities Dealer: Check the daily shop and auction house for stray Wishing Wells or Shrink Kits using surplus trade coins and gemstones.
Layout and Great Building Setup
Keep your city layout compact and dedicated strictly to well placement. A standard Wishing Well requires a 3x3 footprint, while a Wishing Well Shrink Kit reduces it to 3x2.
To optimize tile efficiency:
- Run long, straight single-lane roads along the perimeter to service two rows of wells with minimal asphalt tiles.
- Remove residential buildings, standard production facilities, and cultural decorations once your Great Buildings provide adequate population and coin income.
- Limit Great Buildings to high-utility, small-footprint options: the Temple of Relics for expedition relic spawns, alongside the Statue of Zeus (3x2) and Cathedral of Aachen (4x4) to provide the combat boost needed to clear weekly expedition stages.
Daily Maintenance Routine
A mature diamond farm requires minimal daily interaction:
- Log into the secondary world once every 24 hours.
- Collect ready yields from all Wishing Wells and Fountains of Youth.
- Log out immediately unless an active event offers Wishing Wells or Shrink Kits as the active reward.
Skip standard story quests, city defense, and guild activities unless they directly supply well buildings or expedition access.
