To run the War Machine loadout effectively in Fortnite, collect all three themed items—War Machine's Arsenal, War Machine's Hover Jets, and the Auto Turret—and manage their shared combat loop. Use the Hover Jets to gain vertical sightlines, let the shoulder-mounted Auto Turret chip enemy shields and reveal concealed targets, and alternate between the primary arm cannons and rocket volleys to break through enemy builds.

Where to Find War Machine Tech

While individual pieces can spawn as floor loot across the island, your most consistent source is opening Avengers Chests. These tall, blue-and-silver containers with the Avengers insignia have higher drop rates for Marvel gear and frequently yield at least one piece of War Machine tech alongside shields.

Target these locations to assemble the complete set:

  • Marvel Points of Interest: Search themed strongholds including Castle Doom, Doomstadt, and The Raft for high concentrations of Avengers Chests.
  • Guarded Vaults and Henchmen: Defeat Doctor Doom henchmen and open secured vaults inside named POIs to access high-tier containers.
  • Defeated Opponents: Because Marvel tech is heavily contested during initial drops, eliminating squads around mid-match rotation routes often provides the remaining items you need to complete the trio.

Managing War Machine's Arsenal

War Machine's Arsenal takes one inventory slot and contains two firing modes. It relies on internal heat gauges and cooldown timers rather than standard medium ammunition reserves.

Fire ModeRoleKey Limitation
Arm CannonsRapid, direct-fire mid-range damageOverheats during continuous fire
Micro-MissilesBurst explosive damage against structuresFixed re-arm cooldown after firing

The arm cannons deliver high-velocity shots with minimal bullet drop. Fire in three-to-four-second bursts to keep the heat meter from maxing out, preventing an overheat stall mid-fight.

Switch to the secondary micro-missile salvo when opponents retreat behind wood or brick structures. The barrage quickly shreds structural hit points, stripping wall cover so you can transition immediately back to cannon fire.

Flight Movement with Hover Jets

The Hover Jets provide vertical elevation, aerial hovering, and forward boost dashes. Flight consumes a dedicated fuel gauge that only recharges when your boots touch the ground.

To stay mobile and conserve fuel during combat:

  • Use tap-hovering instead of static floating: Double-jump to activate thrusters, fire a quick burst, and tap crouch to descend before re-engaging the lift. Remaining stationary in the air makes you an easy target for long-range rifles.
  • Combine dashes with terrain cover: Use directional dashes to break line of sight around hills, rocks, and buildings to reload or reset an engagement.
  • Preserve reserve fuel: Keep at least 20 percent of your fuel meter available so you can activate a short burst before landing, which cancels fall damage if you are shot out of the sky.

Auto Turret Utility

The Auto Turret occupies a separate inventory slot and mounts directly onto your back. Once equipped, it operates autonomously without requiring player aim or input.

  • Target detection: The turret swivels toward nearby opponents, firing alert bursts that reveal enemies hiding in bushes or behind thin cover.
  • Shield pressure: The turret delivers steady chip damage during close-quarters shotgun fights, preventing opponents from safely using quick heals or shields while fleeing.
  • Hands-free coverage: Because the turret fires automatically, you can focus entirely on dodging, building, or managing your flight trajectory.

Carrying all three War Machine components consumes three of your five inventory slots. Fill the remaining two slots with a burst-damage close-range weapon and rapid healing items:

  1. Slot 1: War Machine's Arsenal
  2. Slot 2: War Machine's Hover Jets
  3. Slot 3: War Machine's Auto Turret
  4. Slot 4: Shotgun (Gatekeeper Shotgun or Sovereign Shotgun)
  5. Slot 5: Stackable shield heals (Chug Splashes or Flowberry Fizz)

When engaging turtling enemies, hover slightly above their roof, unleash the micro-missile volley directly downward to break their ceiling, and drop into the structure with your shotgun ready. If an opponent hits you with heavy hitscan fire or breaks your shields, drop to the ground immediately; open-air hovering leaves you fully exposed without cover.
