To beat Level 174 in Gardenscapes, prioritize matches along the bottom rows of the board to trigger cascades, construct explosive power-ups to charge Rainbow Blasts, and reserve your limited turns for clearing objective targets.

Opening Priorities: Opening the Lower Board

Level 174 features a constricted board divided by blockers that choke the downward flow of pieces. Horizontal matches made along the top rows rarely disturb these obstacles and consume turns without setting up chain reactions.

Start the stage with these priorities:

  • Match along the bottom: Clearing pieces low on the grid forces entire columns downward, creating automatic cascades and free matches.
  • Clear adjacent blockers: Focus matches directly next to blocked columns so new pieces can flow into restricted areas.
  • Favor vertical center matches: If no bottom moves exist, match vertically down the central columns to shift the maximum number of neighboring tiles.
Board AreaPrimary RiskRecommended Move
Blocked ColumnsHalts the flow of incoming piecesMake adjacent matches immediately to open space
Upper RowsHigh piece count but minimal cascade potentialAvoid unless a match creates an explosive or triggers a lower drop
Lower RowsConstrained space before blockers clearMake standard matches here to force gravity cascades

Crafting and Combining Power-Ups

Standard three-tile matches cannot clear Level 174 within the turn limit. You must craft explosive power-ups to clear clusters of obstacles and charge your Rainbow Blast gauge.

Explosive Combinations

Look for alignments that generate higher-tier explosives:

  • Rocket (4 tiles in a straight line): Clears an entire row or column. Use vertical Rockets to penetrate narrow, blocked columns.
  • Bomb (5 tiles in a T- or L-shape): Clears tiles and obstacles within a two-tile radius.
  • Dynamite (6 tiles in an intersecting shape): Clears tiles and obstacles within a three-tile radius, opening substantial space on the board.

Detonating any of these explosives fills the Rainbow Blast meter beside the grid.

Deploying the Rainbow Blast

Once charged, the Rainbow Blast offers two primary applications:

  1. Combine two Rainbow Blasts: Swapping two adjacent Rainbow Blasts clears the entire screen of regular pieces and heavily damages all breakable obstacles.
  2. Clear dominant colors: If paired Blasts are unavailable, swap a single Rainbow Blast with whichever piece color borders the largest cluster of remaining blockers or objective items.

Mid-Game Turn Efficiency

Moves deplete quickly on Level 174. Before committing to any tile swap, evaluate it against three checks:

  1. Does the match directly damage a blocker or clear an objective piece?
  2. Does the swap create a four-piece or larger explosive?
  3. Will the match drop tiles into a dead column or trigger a cascade?

If a potential move does not accomplish at least one of these goals, look elsewhere on the board for a better swap. Avoid isolated matches in corners that do not impact blocked lanes.

Endgame Execution

When entering the final ten moves, stop detonating explosives randomly across cleared sections of the grid:

  • Target remaining objectives directly: Direct every move toward lingering targets or the blockers shielding them.
  • Aim vertical Rockets: Build and trigger vertical Rockets aligned with stubborn objective columns.
  • Conserve surplus turns: Any moves remaining after fulfilling all collection quotas convert into bonus explosives that trigger automatic coin payouts.
