To beat Level 29 in Gardenscapes, uncover every hidden garden gnome before your moves run out. Start by making matches in the lower rows to trigger automatic cascades, focus on removing double-layered grass to open board space, and use explosive power-ups to clear stubborn corner and edge tiles.

Gnome Mechanics and Grass Types

Gnomes are hidden beneath grass tiles across the board. You do not need to clear all grass on the field—only the patches concealing gnomes.

  • Light Grass: Requires one adjacent match or explosion to clear. If clearing it reveals brown soil, move your attention elsewhere. If it reveals stone, a gnome is underneath.
  • Double-Layered Grass: Dark green turf that requires two hits. The first hit weakens it to light grass, and the second hit removes it. Prioritize these early because they restrict piece movement across the board.
  • Gnome Sizes: Gnomes occupy rectangular footprints, typically 1x2 or 2x2 tiles. Once you reveal part of a stone silhouette, focus your remaining moves on the immediately adjacent tiles to finish uncovering the figure.

Step-by-Step Level 29 Strategy

1. Work From the Bottom Rows

Make your opening matches in the bottom third of the board whenever possible. Clearing pieces near the bottom causes all tiles above them to fall, generating automatic cascades. These cascades chip away at upper grass layers and charge your Rainbow Blast without spending additional moves.

2. Craft and Combine Power-Ups

Standard three-piece matches are too slow to clear double grass within the move limit. Look for formations that generate explosive boosters:

  • Firecracker (Match 4 in a row): Clears a cross pattern one tile in each direction. Use these to hit isolated tiles along the perimeter.
  • Bomb (Match 5 in an L or T shape): Clears a two-tile radius. Setting off a Bomb over double grass removes both layers across multiple tiles at once.
  • Dynamite (Match 6 pieces): Clears a three-tile radius, ideal for uncovering large 2x2 gnomes quickly.
  • Rainbow Blast (Charged by explosions): Swap with any piece to remove all tiles of that color from the board. Target the color most common near uncleared grass.

Combining two adjacent explosives produces a wider blast radius than detonating each separately, making combinations the most efficient way to break through dense turf.

3. Clear Corners and Edges With Explosions

Tiles along the borders and outer corners rarely align for natural three-in-a-row matches. Do not waste moves trying to set up matches directly against the wall. Instead, position a Firecracker, Bomb, or Dynamite one or two columns inward. The blast radius will clip the edge tiles and uncover any gnomes hiding along the perimeter.

4. Target Remaining Silhouettes in the Endgame

When your move counter drops below seven, stop making speculative matches in open areas. Check the board for visible stone edges. If you have uncovered half of a 1x2 gnome, direct all remaining matches and boosters strictly at the adjacent tiles to finish the objective before your turns run out.
