To achieve 36 stars in the Genshin Impact Spiral Abyss, clear floors within the strict timer by matching elemental counters to enemy shields, grouping mobs to maximize area-of-effect (AoE) damage, and swapping support characters into your rotation the moment off-field abilities expire.

Target Elemental Shields First

Failing to break elemental shields efficiently is the main cause of missed 36-star clears. Enemy shields act as hard damage gates that delay your run if you rely on raw physical or mis-matched damage. Review the enemy list for each floor before starting, then bring specific elements to break those shields quickly:

  • Hydro Shields: Use Cryo characters to trigger Frozen or Dendro characters to trigger Bloom. Both deplete Hydro shields far faster than standard attacks.
  • Cryo Shields: Use Pyro characters to trigger Melt, which offers the fastest shield-breaking speed against Cryo targets.
  • Geo Shields: Use Claymore wielders, Geo constructs, or Overload reactions (Pyro + Electro) to shatter Geo armor quickly.

Group Mobs to Maximize AoE Damage

Chasing individual targets across the arena wastes valuable seconds. Force enemies into a single area to maximize your damage output per cycle:

  1. Bait Melee Targets: At the start of a wave, sprint to the outer wall of the arena. Melee enemies will charge toward your location and gather close together automatically.
  2. Use Crowd Control (CC): Anemo supports like Venti, Kazuha, or Sucrose pull dispersed targets into a tight cluster for your damage dealers.
  3. Learn Pathing AI: If you do not run an Anemo CC character, observe which enemies ranged-attack from a distance and stand next to them so melee enemies close in on your position.

Balance Dual-Phase Teams Across Both Halves

Splitting your strong support units evenly prevents one half of a floor from stalling your total time.

Phase TargetPrimary RequirementCore Support Options
First HalfCheck floor list for single-target bosses or heavy AoE mob wavesSplit Bennett, Xingqiu, or Xiangling to elevate overall output
Second HalfAddress remaining elemental shield requirements and target typesAvoid duplicating element reliance (e.g., dual Pyro teams on Pyro-immune mobs)

Build teams that cover opposite elemental needs. If one side requires heavy single-target single-element burst, dedicate your main single-target team there while saving AoE wave-clearing units for the other half.

Refine Rotation Sequences and Energy Flow

Mismanaging burst sequences reduces your overall damage per second (DPS). A proper rotation activates all support buffs and off-field reactions before bringing your main DPS character onto the field.

  • Apply Support Abilities First: Set up debuffs like Viridescent Venerer resistance shred or Bennett’s attack-boosting field before casting your main DPS burst.
  • Maintain Energy Recharge: Build enough Energy Recharge on off-field supports so their elemental bursts are ready immediately when cooldowns finish. Stalling to build energy mid-fight causes significant time loss.
  • Swap Out Expired DPS: Never leave your main DPS on the field after support fields or buffs run out. Swap back to support characters immediately to collect energy particles and reset your rotation loop.

Pre-Position for Enemy Waves

The timer continues running during wave transitions and enemy spawn animations. Eliminate downtime by moving to the next spawn location while finishing off the last target of the current wave.

If a floor spawns a new set of enemies across the chamber, position your active character right next to that spawn point before landing the final blow on the active wave. This allows you to open your next rotation immediately without running across the floor.
