To defeat Gorgon on Total Eclipse difficulty in Guidus One, keep the center of the arena clear of venom pools, face away immediately whenever Gorgon coils for a gaze attack, and dash forward through tail sweeps to exploit recovery frames.
Total Eclipse drastically tightens your room for error. The modifier introduces ambient darkness that obscures floor hazards, shortens Gorgon's telegraphs, and roughly doubles the duration of acid pools. Furthermore, getting petrified removes all innate damage reduction, allowing Gorgon's physical follow-ups to kill your character in a single blow.
Countering Gorgon's Attack Telegraphs
Surviving this encounter requires reacting to distinct telegraph cues without panic-rolling into hazards.
| Attack | Telegraph Cue | Danger Under Total Eclipse | Direct Counter |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrifying Gaze | Crimson eye flash and high-pitched hiss | Arena-wide beam causes full stun and strips damage reduction | Turn your character 180 degrees away before the flash fires |
| Acid Spit | Head rears back with green saliva particles | Persistent caustic pools expand and disable sprint momentum | Run along the arena wall to cluster pools at the perimeter |
| Tail Whip | Lateral body twitch following a tight coil | Massive horizontal sweep that deals fatal physical burst | Dash forward through the tail hitbox to get behind the boss |
| Serpentine Dash | Low ground stance with coiled underbelly | Covers full arena length near-instantly with reduced wind-up | Sidestep diagonally or use invulnerability frames to cross |
Arena Routing and Hazard Control
Controlling where acid lands is the single most important factor in this fight. If venom covers the center lane, you will eventually be cornered during a gaze or dash attack.
- Establish a perimeter orbit: Move in a consistent clockwise or counter-clockwise circle along the outer walls of the chamber.
- Cluster acid shots: When Gorgon rears back to spit, stay moving along the border so each projectile lands tightly packed against the boundary.
- Preserve the center lane: Never cut through the middle of the arena unless you are dodging a lethal physical strike. Keeping the central floor clear gives you reliable space to turn away from the Petrifying Gaze.
- Never dash across acid without invulnerability: Stepping in venom inflicts heavy poison damage and strips your sprint speed. Reserve your dash strictly for crossing hazards or escaping corners.
Build and Blessing Priorities
Stationary melee builds struggle significantly under Total Eclipse due to persistent floor hazards. Focus your build on mobility and hit-and-run capabilities:
- Dash Enhancements: Prioritize blessings that reduce dash cooldowns or grant additional consecutive dash charges. Extra invulnerability frames prevent you from getting trapped between venom pools and Gorgon's tail.
- Ranged and Mobile Damage: Choose throwing daggers, projectile skills, or homing upgrades. These tools let you whittle Gorgon's health bar down while you focus on footwork.
- Status Cleanses: If offered, pick up poison-cleansing or crowd-control reduction options to soften the impact of accidental hazard clips.
Managing the Enrage Phase
At low health, Gorgon enrages and chains the Petrifying Gaze directly into serpentine dashes while summoning minor snake adds into the chamber.
Do not attempt to burst the boss down recklessly during this phase. Use wide-cleaving attacks or secondary area-of-effect skills to eliminate the snake adds immediately so they do not obstruct your movement path. Once the floor is clear of adds, return to your perimeter kiting route. Limit your attacks to the brief recovery windows that follow Gorgon's tail whip and gaze animations until the fight ends.
