To play the Arid Atrocity build in Hearthstone Battlegrounds, secure the Tier 7 All-type minion Arid Atrocity and position high-stat minions with Divine Shield or Venomous to attack and die before it. When Arid Atrocity dies, its Deathrattle snapshots those fallen allies and summons an Amalgam with their combined stats and keywords. Multiplying this trigger with Titus Rivendare and Cultist S'thara creates multiple massive endgame threats.
How the Arid Atrocity Deathrattle Works
Arid Atrocity belongs to every minion type simultaneously. Its Deathrattle summons an Amalgam that inherits the combat stats and keywords of friendly minions that died earlier in that specific combat. Temporary combat buffs—such as Blood Gems, Spellcraft effects, or in-combat attack triggers—are factored into the snapshot upon a minion's death.
| Inherited Property | Primary Source Minions | Effect on the Summoned Amalgam |
|---|---|---|
| Attack & Health | Scaled Elementals, Demons, Quilboar | Transfers baseline and in-combat stats into the Amalgam body |
| Divine Shield | Deflect-o-Bot, Mechs, Shielded Dragons | Prevents damage on the Amalgam's first hit taken or dealt |
| Venomous | Belcher, Transmuted Bramblewitch | Destroys any minion the Amalgam damages |
| Reborn | Sprightly Scarab enchantments, Undead | Resummons the Amalgam with its inherited keywords after death |
Because Arid Atrocity is an All-type minion, Magnetic Mechs such as Annoy-o-Module can attach Taunt and Divine Shield directly onto it during the Tavern phase to dictate when it takes damage.
Key Synergies: Cultist S'thara and Titus Rivendare
To turn a single Amalgam into an entire board, you need resurrection and trigger multipliers:
- Cultist S'thara: Resummons the first friendly Demon that dies each combat. Because Arid Atrocity is All-type, it counts as a Demon. When Arid Atrocity dies first, Cultist S'thara brings it back. When the resummoned Arid Atrocity dies, it triggers a second Deathrattle that snapshots an even deeper pool of dead friendly minions. Requirement: Do not field any other Demons, or Cultist S'thara may resurrect a weak sacrifice instead.
- Titus Rivendare: Causes Arid Atrocity to summon two Amalgams (or three if Titus is Golden) per Deathrattle trigger.
- Monstrous Macaw: If positioned to attack before Arid Atrocity dies, Macaw triggers the Deathrattle early to summon an Amalgam while keeping the original Arid Atrocity on the board.
Combat Sequencing and Board Positioning
Arrange your warband from left to right so your sacrificial keyword carriers die before Arid Atrocity and your support pieces activate:
- Slot 1 (Primary Sacrificial Attacker): Your highest-stat minion with Divine Shield or Venomous. It must attack and die immediately to enter the death pool.
- Slot 2 (Secondary Keyword Feeder): A second high-stat or utility minion that trades off to expand the stat and keyword pool.
- Slot 3 (Trigger Accelerator): Monstrous Macaw (if run) to trigger Arid Atrocity before it takes lethal damage.
- Slot 4 (Arid Atrocity): Magnetized with Taunt so enemy attacks target it only after your frontline attackers have died.
- Slot 5 (Cultist S'thara): Dies after Arid Atrocity to resurrect it cleanly.
- Slot 6 (Flex Tech Piece): A non-Demon utility minion, such as Leeroy the Reckless.
- Slot 7 (Titus Rivendare): Placed in the far-right slot to protect its aura from enemy attacks and cleave damage.
How to Find Arid Atrocity and Protect the Board
Because Tier 7 minions do not appear in normal Tavern roll pools, you must access Arid Atrocity through specific mechanics:
- Thorim, Stormlord: Choosing Thorim lets you reserve Arid Atrocity as your locked Tier 7 reward, which unlocks after spending 65 Gold.
- Tier 7 Anomalies or Trinkets: In lobbies where Tier 7 mechanics or high-tier Trinket offerings are active, push to Tavern Tier 5 or Tier 6 while preserving your strongest high-stat keyword minions.
Countering Tech and Positioning Threats
- Zapp Slywick and Whack-a-Gnoll: Opponents can use low-attack targeting to snipe Titus Rivendare or Cultist S'thara early. Buff Titus's Attack in the Tavern above your other backline pieces, or apply Stealth via available Tavern spells or Trinkets.
- Scam Units (Leeroy the Reckless, Transmuted Bramblewitch): A single large Amalgam is vulnerable to instant removal. Stacking Divine Shield and Reborn onto your sacrificial units and running Titus ensures multiple Amalgams spawn to absorb scam hits.
- Board Contamination: Avoid buying or generating Demon tokens in the late game, as any stray Demon death invalidates Cultist S'thara's targeted resurrection loop.
