To win with C'Thun Shaman in Hearthstone, your goal is to survive enemy pressure, cast all four 5-mana C'Thun pieces to shuffle the 10-mana C'Thun, the Shattered into your deck, and draw it using Lorekeeper Polkelt to unleash 30 lethal split damage.

Assembling C'Thun: The Four 5-Mana Pieces

At the start of the match, C'Thun, the Shattered splits into four distinct 5-mana spells. Each spell counters a specific board state. Cast them reactively rather than blindly on curve to maintain board control while advancing your win condition.

C'Thun PieceMana CostEffectPrimary Use
Heart of C'Thun5Deal 3 damage to all minionsClearing mid-health swarms or breaking divine shields
Maw of C'Thun5Destroy a minionHard removal against high-stat targets
Eye of C'Thun5Deal 7 damage split randomly among enemiesFinishing damaged remnants or softening targets
Body of C'Thun5Summon a 6/6 minion with TauntHalting physical attacks and establishing board presence

Completing all four pieces as early as turn 8 or 9 shuffles the completed 10-mana C'Thun, the Shattered into your deck.

Mid-Game Stabilization and Removal

C'Thun Shaman uses efficient defensive spells to stay alive while cycling through combo pieces:

  • Dunk Tank: Corrupts when you play a card costing 5 or more mana, such as any C'Thun piece. Once corrupted, it deals 4 damage to a chosen target and 2 damage to all other enemy minions.
  • Torrent: Costs only 1 mana instead of its base cost if you cast any spell on the previous turn, dealing 8 damage to a single minion. Set this up deliberately by playing a cheap utility spell the turn before a major threat arrives.
  • Tidal Wave: Deals 3 damage to all minions with Lifesteal, simultaneously wiping wide boards and restoring your hero's health pool out of lethal range.
  • Groundskeeper: If you hold a 5-mana card (such as a C'Thun piece), playing Groundskeeper summons a 4/5 Taunt minion and restores 5 health to your hero.
  • Devolving Missiles: Transforms enemy minions into lower-cost random minions, neutralizing early buffs, Deathrattles, and Reborn effects.

Spell Duplication with Diligent Notetaker

Diligent Notetaker returns the next spell you cast to your hand through its Spellburst mechanic.

  • Mana Acceleration: Pair Notetaker with Lightning Bloom to generate temporary mana without sacrificing card advantage.
  • Removal Value: Play Notetaker before casting a corrupted Dunk Tank, Torrent, or a C'Thun piece against heavy boards.
  • Piece Assembly Rule: Duplicating a C'Thun piece with Notetaker does not accelerate the summoning requirement. You must still cast the four uniquely named pieces to shuffle C'Thun into your deck, though the extra copy provides additional removal.

Sequencing Lorekeeper Polkelt

Lorekeeper Polkelt reorders your remaining deck from highest mana cost to lowest. Deploy him based on the state of your combo:

  1. Before assembling C'Thun: If you are missing pieces, playing Polkelt draws your remaining 5-mana C'Thun spells in succession over subsequent turns.
  2. After casting all four pieces: Once C'Thun, the Shattered is shuffled into your deck, playing Polkelt places the 10-mana Old God directly on top of your library for your next draw, bypassing draw RNG.

Closing Out the Game

Against aggressive decks, rely on Devolving Missiles, Groundskeeper, and Tidal Wave to exhaust the opponent's resources; surviving their initial push often wins the game without needing the full C'Thun ritual.

Against control decks, anticipate disruption tools like Mutanus the Devourer or Vol'jin once your finisher is drawn. Before playing C'Thun, use Heart of C'Thun, Torrent, or Tidal Wave to clear the enemy board. Dropping C'Thun onto an empty board directs all 30 missiles directly into the enemy hero for an immediate finish.
