To win with the Warlock and Priest hybrid in Hearthstone's Reign of the Black Empire Tavern Brawl, build around a dedicated C'Thun shell supported by Warlock's card draw and area-of-effect removal. The deck's primary goal is pushing C'Thun to at least 10 attack by turn six, stabilizing the board with Twin Emperor Vek'lor, and deploying C'Thun as a board-clearing finisher.

Core Card Package

The hybrid list combines Priest's durable cultists and healing synergy with Warlock's board wipes and card generation to prevent running out of resources.

If additional defensive support is needed, consider Twilight Darkmender. When C'Thun reaches 10 attack, this Priest minion restores 10 health, offsetting the health spent using Warlock's Life Tap hero power.

Early-Game Curve (Turns 1–4)

Focus early mana on contesting the board directly rather than using Life Tap. Falling behind on board state limits your ability to set up favorable trades.

  1. Turns 1 and 2: Keep low-cost cultists in your opening mulligan. Play Beckoner of Evil on turn two. If holding the Coin while going second, use it to curve Beckoner of Evil into a turn-three follow-up.
  2. Turns 3 and 4: Deploy Disciple of C'Thun to remove small opposing minions without sacrificing your own minions. Follow with C'Thun's Chosen to control trades via Divine Shield.
  3. Hero Power Timing: Only use Life Tap on these turns if your hand lacks a proactive minion to play. Conserve health against fast, aggressive decks.

Mid-Game Stabilization (Turns 5–7)

The critical inflection point is reaching 10 attack on C'Thun, which unlocks your defensive payoffs.

  • Reaching the Threshold: Track C'Thun's attack total carefully. Hooded Acolyte can rapidly accelerate this milestone if paired with healing spells or the Priest hero power across multiple trades.
  • Deploying Twin Emperor Vek'lor: Once C'Thun reaches 10 attack, play Vek'lor as soon as turn seven (or turn six with the Coin). Summoning two Taunt minions halts aggressive pushes and buys time to draw your closer.
  • Clearing Wide Boards: If swarmed before Taunt minions are deployed, cast Defile or Hellfire. Cultists like Hooded Acolyte often survive symmetrical board damage due to their high base health, leaving you with surviving board presence after the clear.

Endgame Execution

Deploy C'Thun once the opponent's immediate responses are exhausted or when the battlecry guarantees lethal damage.

  • Baiting Removal: Against control decks, force opponents to spend single-target removal on Twin Emperor Vek'lor or mid-game threats before dropping C'Thun.
  • Tempo Clears: You do not need an immediate one-turn kill to play C'Thun. Playing C'Thun on a contested board will wipe enemy minions and leave a massive body that demands an immediate answer.
  • Hand Management: When tapping for answers late in the game, monitor hand size closely to avoid burning key cards. Dump low-cost cultists onto the board each turn to maintain sufficient hand space.
