To clear the High Ground of Wind in Hero Emblems II, prioritize eliminating enemies with one- or two-turn action timers, match shield emblems to maintain Defense Points (DP), and stockpile advanced skill tiles before triggering the final boss encounter. Because the stage runs across consecutive combat waves with no recovery breaks, maintaining full DP prevents incoming hits from depleting your party's actual Health Points (HP).
Hero Emblem Roles and Survival Priorities
Each hero emblem controls a specific combat function. Surviving the mountain gauntlet requires balancing defensive uptime with physical and elemental burst damage.
- Alston (Knight / Defense Points): Matching blue knight emblems regenerates your DP shield. In the High Ground of Wind, airborne units and archers hit frequently; keeping DP raised ensures stray damage never drains raw party HP.
- Howard (Swordsman / Physical Damage): Matching sword emblems deals frontline physical damage. Howard softens heavy mountain frontliners, and four-emblem matches trigger armor-piercing strikes against targets with high magic resistance.
- Elsa (Mage / Elemental Magic): Matching purple magic emblems deals elemental spell damage. Elsa wipes out clustered airborne enemies and heavily armored mountain creatures resistant to standard sword slashes.
- Trina (Cleric / Recovery and Cleansing): Matching green crests restores lost HP and removes active status ailments. Make Trina matches a priority whenever enemy volleys break through depleted shields.
Action Timers and Threat Prioritization
Enemies in the High Ground of Wind display a floating action counter that drops by one with every swap you make on the puzzle board.
Target units with a countdown of 1 or 2 turns first, regardless of where they sit in the formation. Flying raptors and wind sprites often have short countdowns and deal rapid physical hits across consecutive turns. When an enemy has 3 or 4 turns remaining, use those free swaps to regenerate Alston's shield or align the board.
When multiple monsters threaten to attack on the same turn, aim for matches that cause cascades. A deliberate match near the lower grid can clear an active attacker with Howard or Elsa while simultaneously generating Alston shields from falling tiles to blunt the surviving enemy's strike.
Countering Grid Hazards
The mountain route features grid-locking debuffs and turbulent environmental effects that hinder movement across the board.
| Hazard Type | Effect on Grid | Recommended Counter |
|---|---|---|
| Locked Tiles | Prevents swapping in the affected cell | Make an adjacent match or trigger an adjacent skill emblem blast. |
| Poison and Bleed | Inflicts party damage at the end of each turn | Match Trina's healing emblems immediately to purge the ailment. |
| Turbulence | Shuffles board pieces unexpectedly | Focus on direct, immediate 3-matches rather than multi-turn setups. |
To clear locked cells efficiently, match tiles near the bottom of the board. Lower clears pull down more replacements from the top, increasing the odds of passive cascades that free restricted cells without wasting dedicated moves.
Generating and Storing Skill Emblems
Relying exclusively on three-emblem matches extends battle duration and exposes your party to avoidable damage. Create and hold special tiles during easier waves to prepare for sudden difficulty spikes.
- Skill Emblems (4-Tile Line): Matching four identical emblems in a straight line creates a Skill Emblem. Activating it triggers an enhanced hero action, such as Howard's multi-slash, Elsa's area burst, Alston's reinforced barrier, or Trina's party heal. Store these on the grid until a high-threat enemy spawns or your DP breaks.
- Ultra Emblems (5-Tile Line, T-Shape, or L-Shape): Matching five emblems produces an Ultra Emblem. Swapping an Ultra Emblem with any adjacent tile detonates every emblem of that type across the board. Save an Elsa or Howard Ultra Emblem to clear the opening formation of the final wave instantly.
Wave Transition and Boss Strategy
Entering the final encounter with depleted shields or an unmanaged board often causes a fast defeat. Use the final turns of the preceding wave to set up your team.
Before defeating the last monster in the penultimate wave, pause offensive matches. Spend two or three turns matching Alston's shields and Trina's healing tiles to restore full DP and HP while the weakened enemy readies an attack. At the same time, line up at least one offensive Skill or Ultra Emblem near the center of the grid.
Execute the following sequence when the boss encounter begins:
- Clear supporting adds immediately: Trigger your stored Elsa or Howard Ultra Emblem within the first two turns to wipe out support minions and isolate the boss.
- Monitor the boss charge stance: When the boss begins charging a specialized wind attack, its action counter will freeze or signal a heavy strike.
- Fortify DP before the impact: Match Alston’s defense emblems right before the charged strike lands so your DP absorbs the full hit instead of your HP.
- Counter during recovery: After absorbing the hit, activate remaining offensive skill tiles to exploit the boss's recovery window and finish the fight.

This guide answered the exact question I had.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
This helped me understand heroes much better.
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
