To support your primary carry in Idle Heroes without starving your account of promotion food, build specialized utility heroes to specific stopping points rather than taking every hero to E5. Prioritize low-investment "suicide" supports first, retain essential crowd control and debuff units, and delay pure tenant heroes until your carry unlocks Cloud Island.
Suicide Supports to Build First
Suicide supports provide their greatest value through death passives triggered in the first two rounds of combat. Leveling them too high increases their survivability, which delays those buffs and consumes fodder that belongs on your primary damage dealer. Leave these heroes unequipped or stripped of HP guild tech so enemy attacks eliminate them quickly.
- Waldeck (Stop at 9-star): Place Waldeck in any backline position. When he dies, he triggers Blood Rage, granting team-wide healing based on his attack stat and buffing allied damage output for several rounds. Do not upgrade him past 9-star in the early game; extra durability prevents him from dying early enough to trigger his buff.
- Ignis (Stop at 9-star or 10-star): Place Ignis directly adjacent to your primary carry hero. Upon death, Ignis grants 100% crowd control immunity, damage reduction, and a full burst of active energy to the adjacent ally. While she can eventually be raised to E5 much later for Void Boss encounters, keeping her at 9-star or 10-star provides peak efficiency across Aspen Dungeon and Tower of Oblivion.
Core Utility Heroes and Upgrade Targets
After securing suicide utility, build secondary non-Transcendence heroes who offer energy drain, attack reduction, or defense stripping. Unlike suicide units, these heroes benefit from surviving longer and can eventually reach E5.
| Hero | Target Star Level | Primary Function | Priority Game Modes |
|---|---|---|---|
| Tix | 10-star, then E5 | Attack stealing; burst damage on death | Aspen Dungeon, Tower of Oblivion, Void Corruption |
| Carrie | 10-star, then E5 | Frontline energy drain; self-revive cycling | Brave Trial, PvP, Void Vortex, Campaign |
| Holmes Young | 10-star or E5 | Dove transformation crowd control; potion burst | Campaign wave clears, Tower, Fortress Seal Land |
| Drake | 9-star or 10-star | Defense stripping via Black Hole mark | Broken Spaces, Guild Altar, boss fights |
| Heart Watcher | 9-star or 10-star | Stacking damage-taken debuff (up to 300%) | PvE boss encounters, Broken Spaces, Flame Shrine |
Tix is the primary damage amplifier for an early carry. Equipping him with an energy artifact allows him to steal attack from the strongest enemies on round one, and his death passive inflicts heavy retaliatory damage to finish waves. Carrie prevents enemies from using round-two active skills by draining their energy, while Holmes Young neutralizes high-damage enemy waves by polymorphing them into doves.
For dedicated boss fights, Heart Watcher and Drake serve as mandatory debuffers. Keep both at 9-star or 10-star during early progression; pushing them to E5 wastes resources without increasing their core damage-multiplying capabilities.
Cloud Island Tenants
Once your main carry unlocks homeowner status on Cloud Island, you must build specific heroes to boost the homeowner's Attack and HP attributes.
- Onkirimaru: The primary non-Transcendence tenant for standard Shadow carries. He provides massive attack scaling to the homeowner. He offers minimal impact in active combat, so keep him benched and equip him with warrior gear, an offensive stone, and attack enables strictly for stat transfer.
- Jahra and Ithaqua: Common secondary non-Transcendence tenant anchors before transitioning into full Transcendence lineups.
Do not build tenants before your carry has an active Cloud Island home and you have the spare fodder to push those tenants directly to E5. Building tenant copies prematurely diverts resources away from active team utility.
Lineup Positioning Rules
Team positioning determines whether support buffs land on the correct heroes and trigger at the right times:
Campaign and Tower Progression
- Slot 1 (Frontline): Primary Carry (equipped with defensive artifacts such as Crown or Withered Armor).
- Slot 2 (Frontline): 9-star or 10-star Ignis (absorbs hits, dies early, and feeds energy and CC immunity directly to Slot 1).
- Slot 3 (Backline): 9-star Waldeck (activates team-wide Blood Rage upon death).
- Slot 4 (Backline): Carrie (placed directly opposite the highest active skill threat).
- Slot 5 (Backline): Tix (equipped with an energy artifact to steal attack immediately).
- Slot 6 (Backline): Holmes Young or situational crowd control.
PvE Boss Lineup (Broken Spaces and Flame Shrine)
- Slot 1: Primary Carry.
- Slot 2: 9-star or 10-star Heart Watcher (safely ramps damage debuffs to the 300% cap).
- Slot 3: 9-star or 10-star Drake (shreds boss defenses).
- Slot 4: Elyvia or Andrea (provides team damage reduction and healing).
- Slot 5: 9-star Waldeck (sustained attack buffs and death passive heals).
- Slot 6: Tix or a secondary damage dealer.
Fodder Management Rules
Progress stalls when food is spread across too many simultaneous projects. To maintain steady hero generation:
- Avoid the 7-star and 8-star trap: Any hero promoted past 6-star cannot be used as promotion material until they reach 9-star or 10-star. Never take a hero past 6-star unless you already have the copies and resources to complete them at 9-star or 10-star.
- Sacrifice niche heroes: Copies of niche damage dealers like Morax, Flora, or Natasha should be used as 9-star or 10-star food for your carry and core supports.
- Preserve utility copies: Lock copies of Carrie, Tix, Ignis, Waldeck, Drake, Heart Watcher, and Onkirimaru in your bag to prevent accidentally consuming essential support infrastructure.

Can you add more details about heroes in a future update?
The explanation is clear, especially for beginners.
This saved me time in the early game.
Nice guide. I am checking the other Idle Heroes articles next.
