To pilot the Japan/US Control deck in KARDS - The WW2 Card Game, spend the opening turns denying enemy frontline access with cheap Japanese removal, accelerate your Kredit capacity using American ramp orders, and close the match with heavy American bombers. This pairing pairs Japan as the major power for defensive stalling with the United States as the ally for resource ramp and late-game finishers.
Mulligan and Early Frontline Defense
Your primary goal during turns 1 through 3 is denying the enemy uncontested control of the frontline while protecting your headquarters (HQ). Fast aggro decks, such as German blitz or Soviet token builds, rely on early frontline occupation to threaten direct HQ damage.
Follow these mulligan rules:
- Mulligan away: Expensive late-game bombers, heavy armor, and high-cost ramp orders.
- Keep: Low-cost tactical pin orders, direct-damage removal cards, and cheap defensive answers.
The deck creator specifically removed Takasaki from later versions of the list, favoring spell-based removal and cycle tools over low-stat infantry bodies. Cheap frontline infantry can provide opponents with favorable trades or feed destruction triggers. Relying on direct orders keeps the frontline clear without leaving vulnerable units on the board.
Mid-Game Kredit Balancing and Stabilization
Turns 4 through 6 are the most vulnerable window for this archetype. Opposing midrange decks will deploy medium armor and bombers that cheap early removal cannot eliminate alone.
Calculate operation costs alongside deployment Kredits before committing cards to the board. Spending all available Kredits to deploy a single unit leaves you unable to react to counterattacks on the opponent's turn. Pin high-attack enemy threats to buy time rather than rushing unfavorable trades.
| Game Phase | Primary Objective | Tactical Action |
|---|---|---|
| Turns 1–3 | Frontline Denial | Pin or destroy early units; keep only reactive removal during mulligans. |
| Turns 4–6 | Ramp & Stabilization | Play US ramp orders, pin dangerous medium armor, and conserve operation Kredits. |
| Turns 7+ | Endgame Closure | Deploy heavy American bombers to wipe the board, then assault the enemy HQ. |
Transitioning to Offense and Closing the Game
Once your Kredit pool reaches 8 or more, pivot from defense to establishing a lethal board state.
- Deploy heavy American air units: Position strategic bombers in your support line. Bombers can attack enemy targets without taking retaliatory damage from standard ground units.
- Clear the battlefield first: Do not attack the enemy HQ prematurely. Use your bombers and surviving ground forces to eliminate the enemy support line and secure the frontline.
- Target the enemy HQ: Once the opponent's board is empty and their hand resources are depleted, direct your high-attack units at the enemy HQ to close the game in two to three turns.
Matchup Strategy and Deck Tuning
- Versus Fast Aggro: Treat HQ health as your primary metric. Use removal orders aggressively to eliminate any unit capable of dealing recurring damage. Outlasting their opening hand is your sole win condition. If facing frequent aggro on the ladder, tech in additional low-cost pinning orders and defensive guard units.
- Versus Control Mirrors: Play patiently and conserve your highest-tier removal orders for the opponent's primary late-game threats. Avoid using hard removal on secondary units. If control mirrors dominate your matchups, replace low-end stabilization cards with additional card draw and high-value threats.
