To win with a Soviet token deck in KARDS - The WW2 Card Game, flood the board with cheap 1/1 Light Infantry, capture the frontline immediately to trap the enemy on defense, and finish the opponent using team-wide attack buffs before mass-removal orders clear your units.
Managing the Five-Unit Line Limit
The primary mechanical constraint for Soviet swarms is board capacity. The battlefield permits a maximum of five units per line. Because low-cost orders and unit abilities continuously spawn recruits into your support line, careless deployment causes board lock, which blocks you from deploying stronger utility pieces and orders.
Prevent board lock by monitoring your unit count every turn:
- Advance healthy infantry into the frontline as soon as slots and Kredits allow, freeing backline positions for fresh deployments.
- Trade damaged 1/1 tokens directly into enemy frontline units or guards rather than letting them linger on your support line.
- Space out multi-unit spawning orders so you do not exceed the five-unit cap in a single phase.
Essential Soviet Token Engine Cards
Soviet swarms rely on redundant low-cost token generators paired with cheap removal and cycle cards to maintain card flow without wasting Kredits.
| Card Name | Kredit Cost | Tactical Role | Primary Timing |
|---|---|---|---|
| Reserves | 1–2 Kredits | Fast token generation | Early turns to claim opening board presence |
| 848th Rifle Regiment | 1 Kredit | Early infantry engine | Turn 1 to contest frontline access |
| Bloody Sickle | 1 Kredit | Ping damage and card draw | Turns 1–3 to eliminate 1-defense enemy units |
| Katyusha | 2 Kredits | Backline support and pinning | Mid-game placement behind a secured frontline |
| From the People | 3 Kredits | Multi-unit infantry refill | Mid-game recovery after board trades or sweepers |
Frontline Control and Kredit Management
Securing the frontline row prevents opposing units from advancing and lets your infantry strike the enemy headquarters directly. However, standard Light Infantry units require 1 Kredit each to move or attack, which can drain your turn resources if you advance carelessly.
Follow this turn sequence to maintain tempo and conserve Kredits:
- Clear opposing frontline defenders using Bloody Sickle or disposable tokens before committing new units.
- Advance healthy infantry forward only when you have surplus Kredits remaining to deploy fresh recruits behind them.
- Protect backline support units, such as Katyusha, behind your frontline screen so they can fire without taking return damage.
- Strike the enemy headquarters once the frontline is secured and the opponent has no immediate units to trade back.
Scaling Attack Power and Playing Around Board Sweepers
Base 1/1 Light Infantry cannot close games on their own. Multiply your damage using wide attack buffs and scaling threats:
- Mass-Buff Orders: Play offensive buffs like The Hammer across a full board of five units to turn modest chip damage into lethal burst damage in a single attack step.
- Attack-Scaling Units: Position the 321st Rifle Regiment on the board before initiating combat trades, as it gains attack whenever friendly units are destroyed.
High-efficiency area-of-effect removal from German and British control decks represents your primary failure point. Avoid dumping your entire hand onto the board at once. Keep at least one major token generator—such as Reserves or From the People—in your hand so you can instantly rebuild your frontline if your opponent spends four to six Kredits on a full board clear.
