To beat Excavation Gateway on Impossible difficulty in Kingdom Rush Vengeance TD+ using only basic towers and default heroes, anchor your defense at the central junction where incoming enemy paths converge. Use an Orc Warriors Den to stall the chokepoint, back it with an Infernal Mage to shred armored units, and actively reposition Veruk to intercept leaks and interrupt elite enemy attacks.

Because Impossible difficulty increases enemy health, movement speed, and damage output, your four basic slots must handle armor, swarms, and aerial units without relying on premium unlocks.

Veruk is the standard hero for this setup. His high health pool, self-sustain, stun, and ability to summon extra orc blockers allow him to stabilize lines when incoming waves threaten to break your barricades.

Early Wave Defense

Start by establishing your primary chokepoint before the first wave begins:

  1. Build an Orc Warriors Den at the central junction where the tracks meet. Set the rally point slightly forward to catch infantry before they spread across multiple paths.
  2. Build an Infernal Mage adjacent to the junction to counter early armored infantry that resist physical strikes.
  3. Place a Shadow Archer tower behind the junction to target fast runners attempting to slip through.
  4. Station Veruk directly behind the frontline soldiers to absorb overflow damage and catch stragglers.
  5. Hold your Soul Impact spell for emergency leaks. Do not fire it on cooldown; save it for clusters of fast runners that slip past your soldiers during respawn timers.

Mid-Wave Upgrades and Anti-Air Priority

From wave five onward, armored brawlers and aerial units deploy in mixed groups. If your towers target only frontline bruisers, flying units will cross your exit unchallenged.

  • Rush the Level 4 Infernal Mage: Elevate your primary mage tower to Level 4 as soon as gold allows. The escalating heat beam is required to melt heavily armored targets before they crush your blockers.
  • Add Goblin Rocket Riders: Place artillery near the main choke to soften dense infantry groups with area-of-effect explosive damage.
  • Target aerial threats: Use the focus-target mechanic on your Shadow Archers when gyrocopters or subterranean flyers enter range. Ranged flyers inflict heavy damage on grounded foot soldiers and Veruk if left unattended.

Hero Micro and Skill Usage

Veruk cannot remain stationary on Impossible difficulty without taking lethal spike damage. Rotate him across the central zone using these rules:

  • Retreat for health recovery: Pull Veruk back when his health drops below 30% so his passive regeneration can trigger while your orc soldiers hold the line.
  • Interrupt elite attacks: Trigger Veruk's charge and stun to break the windup animations and channeled abilities of elite dwarven combatants.
  • Deploy summoned blockers: Cast Veruk's summoned orc soldiers directly onto stray runners or backline spellcasters that bypass your main barricade.
  • Reposition rally points: Adjust your barracks flag during combat to pull enemy clusters into the blast radius of your Goblin Rocket Riders.

Late-Wave Strategy

The final waves deploy dense waves of mechanical walkers, sappers, and armored vanguards. Invest your late gold into specialized abilities on existing towers rather than buying low-tier towers on peripheral plots:

  • Buy Teleportation on the Infernal Mage: Teleporting durable frontline enemies backward along the track buys critical time for your archers and artillery to wear them down.
  • Maximize Shadow Mark: Apply Shadow Mark through your Shadow Archers to increase the damage dealt to high-health targets by all surrounding towers.
  • Stagger powers: Drop reinforcement spells in front of heavy mechanical units to force them into combat early. Keep Soul Impact in reserve to eliminate any rogue mechanical units that manage to push past your depleted frontline.
