To clear Excavation Gateway on Veteran difficulty with three stars in Kingdom Rush Vengeance TD+, anchor your frontline at the central path convergence using Veruk and layered stall units, then concentrate your gold into upgrading magic and area-of-effect towers directly overlooking that choke point.

Do not spread basic towers across every open plot. Instead, consolidate your damage around the main intersection where incoming Dwarven infantry stacks together.

Veruk Hero Management

Veruk functions as your primary roadblock against heavy Dwarven infantry. To keep him alive and effective throughout the stage, follow these positioning and ability guidelines:

  • Anchor the junction: Station Veruk immediately forward of your main tower cluster rather than up at the monster spawns. This ensures all halted enemies take continuous fire from your ranged defenses.
  • Layer body blockers: Pair Veruk with barracks units placed slightly behind him. Staggering your front line prevents fast rushers from slipping through while Veruk is engaged in combat animations.
  • Cycle goblin summons: Trigger Veruk's goblin summons whenever multiple armored units or large enemy swarms close in. The extra bodies divert high-damage strikes away from Veruk and stall lane pushes.
  • Micro for health recovery: If Veruk's health drops low against heavy hitters, pull him back behind your secondary blockers. Let auxiliary units and ranged fire finish the targets while Veruk regenerates, then reposition him at the front.

Defensive Tower Setup

Excavation Gateway's winding layout allows single defensive positions to cover multiple stretches of track. Build around natural choke points using a balanced mix of damage types.

Tower ArchetypePrimary RoleOptimal Placement

Place your blocking units just inside the firing arcs of your offensive towers. If enemies are stopped outside tower range, your investment is wasted.

Upgrade Priority and Gold Allocation

Veteran difficulty punishes placing too many un-upgraded tier-1 towers. Weak towers lack the burst damage required to clear armored waves before your blockers collapse.

  1. Establish the core choke point: Build your initial stall units and place an early magic tower and ranged tower at the main intersection.
  2. Push core damage to tier 3 and 4: Prioritize elevating your central magic tower to its higher tiers as early as possible. High-tier magic damage strips heavy Dwarven armor quickly, preventing frontline congestion.
  3. Add area damage: Upgrade an artillery tower covering the entrance to the junction to thin out clustered swarms before they reach Veruk.
  4. Acquire support abilities: Once your primary damage towers are at high tiers, purchase stall upgrades and troop survivability abilities to handle late-wave pressure.

Wave Tactics and Ability Timing

  • Save global abilities for stacked waves: Use Soul Impact and summon reinforcements when elite Dwarven units arrive flanked by fast runners. Wiping the support units with global powers allows single-target towers to focus down armored targets.
  • Shift lanes reactively: If a side lane faces a sudden breakthrough while abilities are on cooldown, temporarily reposition Veruk to intercept the runners, then immediately return him to the main junction once the lane is secure.
  • Protect your three-star rating: Never sacrifice Veruk in the final waves. Pull him back behind reinforcements if his health enters critical levels, allowing your upgraded towers to clean up the remaining elites.
