To obtain the Royal Guard armor set early in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, launch from the Lookout Landing Skyview Tower once you unlock the paraglider and glide into Hyrule Castle. All three pieces—the Uniform, Boots, and Cap—reside in separate chest locations within the castle. Because the castle grounds contain high-level threats, open each chest quickly and use the Purah Pad to teleport out rather than fighting enemies.

Gliding to Hyrule Castle

You do not need major stamina upgrades to reach the floating castle from Lookout Landing. Manage your flight path by taking advantage of elevated debris platforms and outer castle walls to rest and recover stamina if needed.

Aim for the northern side of the castle. Entering through high exterior windows and side structures allows you to bypass the main courtyards, which are heavily guarded by dangerous foes.

How to Get Each Armor Piece

1. Royal Guard Uniform

  1. Glide into the main hall of the Sanctum on the upper floor.
  2. Locate the treasure chest sitting on the upper platform level.
  3. Use stealth or sprint directly past any aggressive enemies to reach the chest.
  4. Open the chest to claim the Uniform, then instantly open your map and fast-travel away.

2. Royal Guard Boots

  1. Approach the base of the castle along the cliffside water level to find the lower tunnel entrances.
  2. Throw Brightbloom Seeds or carry a light source to navigate the dark corridors of the Lockup.
  3. Watch out for Gloom-covered enemies and floor hazards in narrow hallways.
  4. Use Ultrahand to lift obstacles or clear debris blocking small side storage rooms where the chest is hidden.

3. Royal Guard Cap

  1. Travel to the Princess's Chamber by climbing the exterior castle walls or taking the staircase leading up from the library.
  2. Enter the room and locate the treasure chest positioned near the balcony.
  3. Open the chest to retrieve the Cap. This room has fewer active monster patrols than the Lockup, giving you more time to explore.

Early-Game Benefits and Trade-offs

The Royal Guard set offers high baseline defense early in the game without requiring story quest completions. However, keep these limitations in mind before committing time to the run:

  • No Utility Set Bonuses: Unlike armor sets that increase movement, climbing speed, or attack power, the Royal Guard set only provides high base defense.
  • Difficult Upgrades: Upgrading the set at Great Fairies requires rare materials that are hard to acquire early, keeping you at base defense stats for a long time.
  • High Hazard Risk: Navigation mistakes inside the castle can leave low-level players trapped near Gloom hazards and high-tier monsters.
