To progress efficiently in Knighthood, prioritize upgrading your five armor pieces before leveling specialized weapons, evaluate items primarily by their charm slots, and lock required sacrifice gear for the Mythic Forge. Because your armor pool absorbs both physical and magical damage before your health bar takes direct hits, a well-reinforced defensive set is the most reliable way to survive story hunts, the Monster Cave, and the Arena.
Upgrade Armor Before Weapons
Your armor pool acts as your primary health buffer. An under-leveled armor set leaves you vulnerable to quick defeats against hard-hitting realm bosses, regardless of how strong your weapon is.
- Focus on Helmets and Chest Pieces First: These two slots grant the largest raw defensive increases. When entering a new realm such as Mirefen or White Peak, upgrade these pieces first to absorb heavy initial burst damage.
- Keep Shoulders, Arms, and Boots Near Your Knight Rank: Distribute upgrade materials like Volcanite and gold across the remaining three slots to keep your defensive pool balanced.
- Level Weapons Reactively: Upgrade a weapon only when you face a strict damage check against a specific enemy faction, rather than attempting to level every weapon equally.
How to Evaluate Charm Slots
An item's true endgame value depends on its charm slots rather than its cosmetic look or base rarity. Because charm slots roll permanently when an item is generated, you should inspect an item's sockets before spending forge stones on it.
| Charm Slot Shape | Category | Tactical Value and Function |
|---|---|---|
| Bowtie | Defense / Armor | Grants flat or percentage boosts to total armor; top priority for surviving late-game damage. |
| Diamond | Hero | Boosts Hero base power and damage, speeding up the impact of Hero rage abilities. |
| Hexagon | Status Effect | Increases the success rate or duration of debuffs like Burn, Freeze, or Stun on weapons. |
| Pentagon | Minion | Buffs Arena minion stats; minimal value for Campaign maps and Rift progression. |
Items loaded with Defense and Hero charm slots offer the highest general progression value. Avoid heavily investing in armor pieces that roll multiple Minion slots unless you are creating a dedicated Arena defense setup.
Faction Matchups and Weapon Selection
While armor provides universal defense across all game modes, weapons rely on faction matchups to deal competitive damage. A weapon matching the enemy's faction deals significantly higher damage than a higher-rarity weapon that lacks the faction bonus.
Progress your weapons according to the enemy types dominant in each campaign map:
- Early Game: Goblin, Outlaw, Undead
- Mid Game: Beast, Cult, Militia
- Late Game: Golem, Troll, Demon
Align your weapon investments with your preferred Gauntlet. If your equipped Gauntlet provides bonus punch damage or accelerates rage generation when paired with a sword or hammer, choose weapons from that class to maximize your turn efficiency.
Foundry Transmutation and Mythic Sacrifices
The Dwarven Foundry lets you combine multiple items of the same rarity tier into a single item of the next highest tier. Weapon transmutations inherit traits from the forge ingredients: feeding five weapons targeting a specific enemy archetype (such as Outlaw or Undead) ensures the higher-tier output weapon targets that same faction.
Mythic equipment features the highest baseline stats in Knighthood. Unlocking Mythic gear requires sacrificing specific lower-tier items—ranging from Rare and Epic up to Legendary and Unique—at the Mythic Forge.
To ensure a smooth transition into endgame gear:
- Identify the specific weapon classes and armor weights required by each Mythic Forge slot.
- Lock matching Rare, Epic, Legendary, and Unique items in your backpack as soon as they drop.
- Transmute or dismantle only unlocked, surplus gear with poor charm slot layouts to avoid accidentally destroying required Mythic sacrifices.

I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
I tried this today and it worked better than my old setup.
Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
Nice guide. I am checking the other Knighthood articles next.
