To build a winning army in Knightica, prioritize matching unit archetype traits over high base stats, save your gold rather than spamming shop refreshes, and position durable units in the front line to protect your backline damage dealers.

Draft for Trait Synergies First

When selecting units from the shop, look for matching archetypes to activate passive trait thresholds across your board. Completing a synergy bonus provides team-wide buffs that outweigh the benefit of a single high-stat unit.

When drafting units:

  • Scan available shop choices for archetypes that match your existing board before checking individual attack stats.
  • Fill open slots with units that contribute to an active trait set rather than strong standalone options.
  • Focus on creating passive trait chains early to help weaker units stay effective into mid-game wave transitions.

Manage Rerolls and Gold Reserves

Gold is your primary progression resource, and spending it indiscriminately on shop refreshes can leave you underfunded. Avoid searching early for late-game units, as repeated reroll costs add up fast.

Only refresh the shop if you are one unit away from completing a star-level upgrade or activating a key trait bonus. If your board is currently handling incoming waves, hold your gold and rely on the free shop rotation at the start of each turn. Building a stable gold reserve gives you the flexibility to buy guaranteed unit upgrades when they appear naturally.

Upgrade Units and Position the Board

Upgrading unit star levels and placing troops strategically are the two main ways to increase board survivability.

Combining Duplicate Units

Acquiring multiple copies of the same unit automatically merges them into a higher star-level version with increased health and damage.

  • Upgrade frontline tanks and support units first so your damage dealers stay alive longer.
  • Clear your bench of unused units that do not fit your current synergy plan.
  • Once a unit reaches maximum star level, enhance it further through matching items or supportive traits.

Positioning and Adjacency

Targeting in battle depends heavily on starting positions. Divide your formation by role to control incoming damage:

  • Front Line: Position high-health tanks at the front to soak up initial enemy attacks.
  • Back Line: Keep fragile, high-damage units safely in the rear row.
  • Adjacency Buffs: Place units that provide spatial bonuses directly next to the allies that benefit most.
  • Center Protection: If a key unit dies too quickly, shift it to the center of your formation so surrounding allies absorb stray hits.
