To control combat encounters and minimize incoming damage in Last Beacon: Survival, pull hostiles into open spaces, force missed attack animations using sideways movement, and isolate individual targets from groups. Utilizing spatial positioning as your primary defense conserves weapon durability and healing items during exploration.

Baiting Enemy Attacks with Movement

Hostile entities lock onto a fixed trajectory once they initiate an attack strike. You can exploit this pathfinding behavior to trigger missed swings and open counter-attack windows.

  • Sideways Evasion: Move laterally or change elevation right as an enemy lunges. The hostile commits to its animation trajectory, allowing you to strike safely during its recovery window.
  • Perpendicular Dodging: When facing charging hostiles or heavy attacks, step perpendicular to their path rather than backing straight up. This forces the target further past your position, maximizing their recovery time.
  • Space Management: Avoid fighting inside enclosed rooms. Move hostiles into open areas or corridors. If cornered, break line of sight or force enemies to climb terrain obstacles to slow their movement.

Isolating Single Targets from Groups

Directly engaging multi-enemy clusters depletes stamina and health quickly. Use detection thresholds to separate hostile groups into single encounters:

  1. Approach the Perimeter: Edge toward the outer detection boundary of an enemy group until only one target notices your presence.
  2. Retreat Immediately: Step back to draw the alerted hostile away from the pack.
  3. Finish the Target: Eliminate the isolated enemy in a one-on-one fight before pulling the next target.
  4. Reset Multi-Aggro: If multiple hostiles aggro at once, disengage and use high-mobility movement to break line of sight. This resets aggro on targets you have not yet damaged.

Managing Stamina and High-Density Zones

Sustained combat control requires careful management of your stamina meter and route selection.

Stamina Rules

  • Maintain an Exit Reserve: Avoid using your entire stamina bar on offensive swings. Keep enough stamina available to execute an emergency exit maneuver.
  • Defensive Retreats: If your stamina drops to low levels, pause all offensive strikes. Transition to a defensive retreat behind cover until the stamina bar recharges.

Bypassing and Pathfinding Control

  • Stealth Bypasses: Test detection limits along low-reward zones. If an area contains low-value items, stay along the outer radius of hostile sightlines to pass without drawing aggro.
  • Pathing Manipulation: Place vertical obstacles or winding terrain between your character and pursuing enemies. Forcing hostiles into longer pathfinding routes creates time to strike weak points or escape toward main objectives.
