To survive combat encounters in Last Beacon: Survival, keep moving, prioritize threats based on proximity and attack wind-ups, and land strikes only during enemy attack recovery. Because health items and weapon durability are limited, trading hits directly drains vital resources faster than hit-and-run tactics.

Combat Movement and Circle Strafing

Standing still while fighting makes your character an easy target for incoming strikes. Continuous movement disrupts enemy tracking and opens opportunities to hit back safely.

  • Circle Strafe Melee Foes: Move continuously in a wide arc around your target. This forces melee enemies to constantly turn toward you, delaying their attacks while keeping them at the outer edge of your weapon range.
  • Break Off When Hurt: If your health drops low, immediately retreat or break line of sight rather than attempting to out-damage your opponent. Health is significantly harder to restore than stamina or ammunition.

Target Prioritization and Group Control

Encounters with multiple enemies require target control to avoid taking damage from multiple angles.

  1. Identify High-Priority Threats: Focus your initial attacks on the targets closest to your character or foes that show heavy, telegraphed attack animations.
  2. Funnel Surrounded Groups: When surrounded, maneuver to line up enemies into a single file path. This prevents flanking and lets you strike the front enemy without taking hits from those behind them.
  3. Watch Reinforcements: Monitor the edges of your screen to spot incoming enemies early so you can adjust your movement before getting cornered.

Playstyle Trade-offs and Durability Conservation

Swinging blindly degrades your weapon and risks unnecessary hit exposure. Wait for an enemy to commit to an attack animation before closing in to strike.

Combat StrategyBest Used ForResource and Survival Impact
Hit-and-RunSustained exploration and general survivalMinimizes damage taken and conserves weapon durability.
AggressiveFast single-target eliminationsDelivers quick kills but risks higher health loss and durability wear.
ConservativeControlling weak enemiesPreserves gear durability but risks letting fast enemy groups overwhelm you.

Reading Enemy Visual Cues

Foes signal their heavy strikes through wind-up animations and shifts in posture. Watch these visual cues closely: time your dodges or steps back when an enemy winds up, then strike during the delay following their attack.
