In Last Z: Survival Shooter, spend your Research Badges on event-scoring trees before investing in pure combat stats. Completing reward-multiplier nodes in Zone Commemoration and State vs. State (VS) research unlocks higher event chest tiers, including the ninth daily duel chest. These reward chests return diamonds, speedups, and additional Research Badges that fund your later military upgrades.
Once your core event scoring nodes are established, direct your remaining badges into march capacity and a single troop type.
Four-Tier Research Priority Framework
Progress through the Institute in sequential stages so badge expenditures immediately improve either your resource income or battlefield performance.
| Priority Tier | Focus Area | Strategic Impact |
|---|---|---|
| Tier 1: Foundational | Zone Commemoration & VS Scoring | Unlocks maximum daily event reward tiers and recurring badge income |
| Tier 2: Squad Efficiency | March Capacity & Formations | Expands the total number of deployed units per march |
| Tier 3: Specialized Combat | Single-Troop Lethality & Defense | Maximizes battle stats for your primary squad type |
| Tier 4: Elite Military | High-Tier Unit Masteries | Unlocks end-game unit tiers and advanced military milestones |
Complete the foundational reward-multiplication nodes in Tier 1 before advancing down Tiers 2 and 3.
Focus Badges on a Single Troop Branch
Splitting Research Badges evenly among Fighters, Shooters, and Vehicles delays major breakthroughs. Research costs escalate sharply deeper in each tree, leaving balanced accounts with underpowered units across all formations.
To maximize your combat rating:
- Match tech to your hero roster: Identify your strongest, most developed hero lineup and commit military badges exclusively to their corresponding unit type.
- Max your primary march first: Push deep into your chosen branch to unlock major lethality and resilience milestones.
- Leave off-type units at baseline: Avoid spending badges for minor 3% to 5% stat bumps on secondary troop types, as those badges are better spent unlocking deeper thresholds on your primary march.
Avoid Intermediate Badge Traps
Tech branches often place low-value filler nodes between foundational milestones. Manage your badge inventory by minimizing spending on inefficient upgrades:
- Take prerequisites at minimum rank: If an intermediate node offers gathering speed, troop load, or marginal defense, upgrade it only to the exact level required to unlock the next branch.
- Watch for diminishing returns at deep tiers: Deep-tier nodes frequently increase badge costs exponentially for their final two or three levels while offering the same flat stat increase as level 1. If costs spike, pause that node at level 7 or 8 and reallocate badges to high-impact nodes in an adjacent unlocked tree.
Time Upgrades for Research Scoring Events
Never spend high quantities of Research Badges outside of active scoring events. Hold your large research projects for the designated research day of the weekly State vs. State or Alliance Duel schedule.
Before starting an upgrade, activate Institute title buffs, coordinate alliance helps, and apply research speedups so the project completes while duel points are active. Cashing in research completions during these windows secures point milestones that return fresh badges, recruit tickets, and speedups for your next upgrade cycle.
