In Last Z: Survival Shooter, save your purple hero fragments until you max out essential economic units, then bank the rest for two purposes: converting surplus fragments into Orange Hero shards through the Hero Exchange and spending promotions during Alliance Duel Hero Development Day.
Spreading fragments across every unlocked purple hero weakens your long-term progression. Orange heroes quickly outclass purple combat units, making mid-tier combat investments obsolete once your base matures.
Purple Hero Star Priorities
Before hoarding fragments, take key functional purple heroes to their full five-star limit. Resource gatherers and base utility units remain valuable across all stages of the game, whereas purple damage dealers are quickly replaced by orange heroes once you reach Headquarters level 16.
| Purple Hero Role | Star Target | Strategic Purpose |
|---|---|---|
| Gathering / Economy | 5 Stars | Boosts PvE collection speed, resource generation, and march loads |
| Base Wall Defense | 3 to 4 Stars | Provides cost-effective garrison resistance |
| Primary Combat | 3 Stars Maximum | Serves as early filler until replaced by 2-star or 3-star Orange heroes |
| Redundant Units | 0 to 1 Star | Preserves duplicate fragments for shop conversion and event points |
Once your designated gathering and utility heroes reach five stars, stop consuming fragments on combat-focused purple units.
Converting Surplus Shards in the Hero Exchange
Duplicate fragments acquired for five-star purple heroes feed directly into the Hero Exchange recycling system. The game allows you to redeem this overflow for specialized hero exchange tokens rather than leaving surplus shards idle in your bag.
These exchange tokens allow free-to-play and low-spending players to target legendary progression materials:
- Orange Hero Fragments: Purchase universal shards or specific legendary commanders like Hercules without relying strictly on recruitment banner luck.
- Skill Enhancement Manuals: Acquire high-tier upgrade materials to raise the skill levels of your primary marches.
Converting excess purple shards provides a dependable pipeline to turn standard recruitment drops, radar rewards, and daily alliance mission rewards into top-tier combat power.
Timing Fragment Upgrades for Alliance Duel
Do not promote hero stars immediately when fragments become available. Save your upgrades and fragment conversions for Hero Development Day, which occurs on Day 4 of the weekly Alliance Duel (VS) cycle.
Holding your promotions for this 24-hour event provides three key advantages:
- Clear VS Chests Without Spending Diamonds: Upgrading four-star and five-star heroes in batches generates enough individual points to unlock all nine daily reward chests.
- Maximize Alliance Duel Match Points: Large fragment expenditures deliver massive point bursts toward your alliance's daily bracket matchup.
- Double-Dip With Arms Race: Coordinate your star advancements with active Arms Race hero training stages to earn milestone rewards across both events using the same resources.
The only exception to holding fragments is an early-game campaign bottleneck that directly halts your headquarters expansion. Outside of critical progression stops, leave red notification dots alone in your hero roster and wait for the appropriate event stage.
