To run the Kerning City Party Quest (KPQ) in Classic MapleStory, assemble a party of four players between levels 21 and 30, gather outside the Kerning City Subway station, and have your party leader speak to the NPC Lakelis.
Completing KPQ yields 25,000 to 35,000 EXP per hour alongside scrolls and gear, outperforming solo grinding spots like Ant Tunnel I or Wild Boar Land (12,000 to 18,000 EXP per hour).
Entry Requirements and Preparation
Before attempting to enter, confirm that your party meets the following conditions:
- Level Range: All four party members must be between level 21 and 30. Players at level 20 or below cannot enter.
- Party Size: Exactly four members are required.
- Location: All members must be on the same channel outside the subway station near Lakelis.
- Inventory Space: Every player needs at least four free slots in their Equip, Use, and Etc tabs so clear rewards do not fall to the floor.
- Channel Access: Only one party can occupy the quest per channel. If an instance is occupied, the leader must repeatedly click Lakelis to enter the moment the preceding group exits.
A balanced lineup speeds up clears. Thieves with Throwing Stars and Magicians using Magic Claw quickly dispatch high-defense monsters, while Warriors or high-HP Brawlers can absorb touch damage during the final boss encounter.
Stage 1: Coupon Riddles
In the first chamber, the party leader speaks to Nella to monitor the stage but does not solve a riddle or collect coupons.
- Get your question: The three non-leader party members speak to Nella individually to receive a unique arithmetic or trivia question.
- Defeat Ligators: Kill Ligators throughout the map to collect the exact number of coupons requested by your question.
- Turn in coupons: Speak to Nella to exchange your coupons for a pass. If you collect more than the requested amount, Nella rejects the turn-in until you drop the excess coupons from your inventory.
- Advance: Hand all three passes to your party leader. The leader turns them in to Nella to unlock the portal.
| Role | Assignment | Item Target |
|---|---|---|
| Party Leader | Speaks to Nella to monitor stage | 0 coupons |
| Member 1 | Answers trivia question; hunts Ligators | Exact coupon total requested |
| Member 2 | Answers trivia question; hunts Ligators | Exact coupon total requested |
| Member 3 | Answers trivia question; hunts Ligators | Exact coupon total requested |
Stages 2 Through 4: Platform and Rope Deduction
Stages 2, 3, and 4 require the three non-leader members to stand on specific interactive objects while the leader clicks the stage NPC to test the combination. Establish a fixed rotation before starting to prevent duplicate guesses:
- Stage 2 (4 Ropes): Only four combinations exist (1-2-3, 1-2-4, 1-3-4, and 2-3-4). Two members hold ropes 1 and 2, while the third member cycles through the remaining ropes.
- Stage 3 (5 Cat Platforms): Platforms are numbered 1 through 5 from bottom to top.
- Stage 4 (6 Hanging Barrels): Barrels are numbered 1 through 6.
To solve Stages 3 and 4 systematically:
- Member A stays anchored on Position 1.
- Member B stays on Position 2, shifting to the next available slot only when all higher combinations are tested.
- Member C cycles through the remaining open spots on each attempt.
- The Party Leader clicks the NPC immediately after every sound cue until the correct combination triggers.
Stage 5: Sewer Clear and King Slime
The final stage requires clearing initial mobs before fighting the boss:
- Clear the sewer: Melee characters clear the bottom sludge while ranged classes take high ledges to kill Curse Eyes and Ligators. Collect the dropped passes.
- Engage King Slime: King Slime spawns at the lowest central basin. It deals high touch-contact damage and summons standard Slimes.
- Maintain position: Bowmen and Magicians should attack with Magic Claw or Double Strafe from the elevated pipes flanking the basin to stay out of the boss's leap radius. Melee players must step back as King Slime reaches the peak of its bounce to avoid contact damage.
- Collect loot and exit: Once King Slime is defeated, the party leader picks up the boss passes, speaks to the final NPC, and teleports the team to the exit map.
Completion Rewards
Speaking to Nella in the exit chamber grants random item bundles. Potential rewards include:
- Consumables: Stacks of 50 to 100 White Potions or Mana Elixirs.
- Crafting Materials: Refinement ores.
- Equipment and Scrolls: Rare Squishy Shoes dropped by King Slime, alongside 10% and 60% weapon defense or attack scrolls, including high-value 60% Claw Attack and 60% Dagger Attack scrolls.

Can you add more details about strategy in a future update?
I wish I had read this before upgrading the wrong thing.
This helped me understand strategy much better.
