League of Legends: Wild Rift Hwei Palette System Guide

In League of Legends: Wild Rift, Hwei controls the battlefield by cycling through nine secondary abilities split across three primary spell palettes, known as Subjects. Announced for release on September 21, Hwei requires players to execute two-step key sequences to cast specific damage, utility, or crowd-control spells.

To cast any spell, press the primary Subject button (Q, W, or E) to open that palette, then press the secondary key for your desired ability. If a primary Subject key is on cooldown, none of the three abilities bound to that palette can be accessed.

Hwei’s Three Palette Subjects

Hwei’s nine abilities are divided equally across three distinct Subject categories, mapped to his primary ability buttons.

Executing Spell Combinations

Because each spell requires opening a palette before making a secondary selection, quick and deliberate inputs are mandatory. Misclicks or delayed inputs waste mana or cause missed cast windows.

Crowd Control into Burst: Initiate an engagement with the Subject of Torment (E). Once an enemy target is rooted or displaced, immediately activate the Subject of Disaster (Q) and select a high-damage follow-up spell directly over the immobilized target.
Layering Zone Control: Deploy lingering area-of-effect effects from Disaster or Torment in narrow choke points. Forcing opponents to walk through pooled damage or crowd-control zones forces them to spend defensive resources like Flash or take major damage.

Mana and Cooldown Management

While Hwei offers high versatility, spamming his palette options rapidly drains his mana pool.

Pacing Damage Output: Avoid constantly casting Disaster (Q) spells solely for long-range poke, as these carry the highest mana cost.
Sustaining Trades: Use Serenity (W) abilities during extended minion trading to mitigate incoming burst damage without exhausting your primary offensive resources.
Reserving Utility: Hold Torment (E) palette abilities for defense against enemy assassins or gap-closers. If caught out of position, Hwei's lack of innate mobility leaves him dependent on defensive Serenity spells or crowd control to survive.
