To play Volibear with the Dusk & Dawn bruiser setup in League of Legends: Wild Rift, rush Heartsteel into Riftmaker. This pairing converts bonus health into ability power and extended fight sustain, allowing you to absorb upfront damage while dealing scaling magic and true damage.
Core Item Build Path
Stack bonus health early so your subsequent AP conversion and shielding gain maximum value.
| Item Slot | Item Choice | Tactical Function |
|---|---|---|
| First Core | Heartsteel | Stacks permanent bonus health on champion hits and provides burst damage via Colossal Consumption |
| Second Core | Riftmaker | Grants omnivamp and converts bonus health into ability power, stacking combat damage into true damage |
| Boots Upgrade | Plated Steelcaps or Mercury's Treads (Gargoyle Enchant) | Select Steelcaps against heavy physical threats or Mercury's Treads against crowd control; activate Gargoyle to absorb focus fire |
| Third Core | Amaranth Twinguard | Provides ramping armor and magic resistance after remaining in combat for five seconds |
| Situational Flex | Spirit Visage or Thornmail | Build Spirit Visage to amplify self-healing and shields, or Thornmail to apply anti-heal against enemy sustain |
Rune Configuration
Run Lethal Tempo as your keystone rune. The ramping attack speed accelerates Volibear's passive, The Relentless Storm, triggering chain lightning faster during prolonged trades without extra resource costs.
- Triumph or Brutal: Restores health on takedowns to chain multikills, or adds baseline offensive power.
- Last Stand: Boosts damage output when your health falls low, directly amplifying the missing-health healing on Frenzied Maul.
- Second Wind or Bone Plating: Take Second Wind against ranged poke or Bone Plating to blunt burst combos from melee laners.
- Overgrowth: Generates permanent maximum health from nearby minion deaths, which continuously scales Heartsteel procs and Riftmaker's AP conversion.
Skill Order and Trade Combo
Max abilities in this order: Frenzied Maul (W) > Sky Splitter (E) > Thundering Smash (Q). Rank Stormbringer (R) at levels 5, 9, and 13.
Ranking Frenzied Maul first reduces its cooldown and increases missing-health healing against marked targets. Execute standard trades with this sequence:
- Cast Sky Splitter (E) onto the ground where the target will move.
- Activate Thundering Smash (Q) for the movement speed burst and strike the target inside the Sky Splitter lightning zone to apply the stun.
- Absorb incoming damage with the shield generated from Sky Splitter while applying the first Frenzied Maul (W) to wound the enemy.
- Continue basic attacks with Lethal Tempo active until Frenzied Maul comes off cooldown, then recast it on the wounded target for an empowered bite and self-heal.
Turret Diving and Teamfighting
Use Volibear's ultimate, Stormbringer, to disrupt enemy fortifications and control fights:
- Tower Dives: Shove a minion wave into the enemy turret. Cast Stormbringer into the structure's radius to temporarily disable it and gain bonus maximum health, allowing your team to finish off defenders without taking turret shots.
- Frontline Brawling: In 5v5 teamfights, do not run directly into the backline without setup. Act as the vanguard by hitting enemy frontliners to build Heartsteel stacks, Lethal Tempo, and Riftmaker's damage ramp.
- Target Transition: Once primary enemy crowd-control abilities have been expended, cast Stormbringer over the frontline onto enemy carries, pinning them with Thundering Smash and recycling Frenzied Maul for sustained healing.
