To defeat Radiant Odogaron during Closed Beta Test 3 (CBT3) in Monster Hunter Outlanders, equip your party with Ice-element weapons, dodge diagonally forward through its leap trajectories, and prioritize breaking its front claws to create extended punish windows.

Radiant Odogaron is significantly more aggressive than the standard Free Hunt version. It chains longer attack strings, tracks player repositioning mid-dash, and leaves narrower recovery frames between strikes. Exploiting its severe vulnerability to Ice is necessary to build elemental staggers and disrupt its offensive chains.

Elemental Strategy and Ice Priority

Radiant Odogaron’s major defensive flaw is its weakness to the Ice element. Because this fanged wyvern continuously dashes around the arena, raw attack power often struggles to capitalize on fleeting openings.

  • Main Character (MC) and Ice Loadouts: Outfit the Main Character or Ice-capable allies with fast Ice weaponry. Landing Ice strikes rapidly builds up elemental flinch thresholds.
  • Interrupting Frenzies: Reaching an elemental threshold forces a stagger, cutting off Odogaron's combo chains and granting clean windows for high-damage abilities.
  • Weapon Archetypes: Fast-striking weapons and mobile ranged options apply Ice buildup reliably during brief passes. Slower weapon classes require support allies or crowd-control effects like paralysis to reliably land complete combos.

Radiant Odogaron vs. Standard Free Hunt Odogaron

Hunters accustomed to standard Free Hunt Odogaron must adjust their timing. Radiant Odogaron cancels its recoveries more rapidly and adjusts its angles to punish early rolls.

Combat FactorStandard Odogaron (Free Hunt)Radiant Odogaron (CBT3)

Do not commit to long animation locks immediately after Odogaron passes you. Against the Radiant variant, lingering in a combo leaves you exposed to immediate pivot bites and sweeping tail attacks.

How to Evade Dash Sequences and Punish Openings

Never roll directly backward when Radiant Odogaron charges. Its lunging claws possess forward reach that regularly catches players at the end of a backstep. Instead, dodge diagonally forward into the attack trajectory or circle tightly behind its front limbs.

Major Attack Openings

  • The Double Claw Slam: Odogaron rears back and unleashes two heavy downward swipes. The second strike lodges its claws briefly into the dirt, offering the safest opening for melee counters.
  • The Corkscrew Tail Spin: Odogaron lets out a low hiss and arches its back before executing a full 360-degree sweep. Dodge through the direction the spin originates from, then attack its hindquarters.
  • Terrain and Wall Springs: When Odogaron bounds backward onto terrain or makes two rapid retreat hops, it is preparing an elongated leaping thrust. Keep your camera locked on the beast and delay your sidestep until its shoulders dip forward into the leap.

Target Priorities: Claws and Tail

Direct your initial damage exclusively toward Radiant Odogaron's front legs:

  1. Break the Forelegs: Breaking the front claws causes Odogaron to stumble and lose its footing whenever it lands large bounding attacks. This adds substantial recovery time to its movement skills.
  2. Sever the Tail: Once the forelegs are broken, shift focus to the tail. Cutting the tail shortens the physical reach of its 360-degree sweep, making close-range repositioning far safer.
  3. Finish at the Head: After securing the leg break, reserve high-damage burst skills for the head during knockdowns to close out the hunt cleanly.
