To progress through early story stages like the Phantom Forest in Monster Super League, prioritize capturing key wild Astromons with Astrochips, exploiting elemental advantages, and collecting combat orbs to fuel active skills.

How to Catch Wild Astromons with Astrochips

Astrochips allow you to capture wild Astromons directly from story battle waves. Tapping the Astrochip icon at the bottom of the screen pauses combat and places a capture reticle over each valid wild target, displaying its base capture percentage.

Manage your chips with these mechanics in mind:

  • Stage Capacity: You carry a maximum of three Astrochips per stage run. Spending all three early leaves you unable to attempt captures if a rare Astromon appears in wave three.
  • Failure Bonus: If an Astrochip throw fails, that specific Astromon gains an additive capture bonus, raising the success rate for subsequent attempts during that encounter.
  • Threat Management: Thin out aggressive enemy adds before throwing chips. Enemies still attack between your attempts, meaning unresolved threats can wipe your team while you try to capture a monster.
  • Target Priority: Reserve your limited throws for high-priority targets like Miho or rare elemental variants rather than common fodder.

Exploiting Elemental Advantages in Battle

Combat damage and defense depend heavily on the elemental affinity wheel. Attacking with an advantageous element increases outgoing damage and critical strike chance while lowering incoming counter-damage. Attacking into a disadvantage causes strikes to glance, reducing damage output and orb production.

  • Fire deals bonus damage to Wood and takes more damage from Water.
  • Wood deals bonus damage to Water and takes more damage from Fire.
  • Water deals bonus damage to Fire and takes more damage from Wood.
  • Light and Dark deal bonus damage to each other while remaining neutral against Fire, Wood, and Water.

Because early campaign areas such as the Phantom Forest feature mostly Wood-type enemies, fielding Fire-type attackers like Fire Miho clears waves quickly. Avoid bringing unranked Water units into Wood-heavy encounters, as glancing hits stall your wave progress.

Generating Battle Orbs and Activating Skills

Landing multi-hit attacks on enemies knocks loose two types of resource orbs that fly to your team automatically:

  • Red Recovery Orbs: Restore lost HP to party members.
  • Blue Spirit Point (SP) Orbs: Charge individual Astromon SP gauges.

Focus normal attacks on a single target to maximize multi-hit combos and trigger overkill orbs, which distribute resources across the entire party once a foe's health reaches zero. When a monster's blue gauge fills completely, its portrait lights up to signal that its Active Skill is ready. Save high-impact area-of-effect or burst skills for the final boss wave rather than expending them on easy minions.

Assembling an Early Four-Monster Team

Form a balanced four-member roster to handle damage spikes on boss waves:

  1. Two Primary Attackers: Exploit the stage's elemental weakness to clear waves efficiently.
  2. One Defensive Tank: Absorbs single-target enemy attacks.
  3. One Recovery or Balance Unit: Sustains frontline health throughout multiple rounds.

Place a Variant Astromon in your team's first slot whenever possible. Variant units, recognizable by their distinct glow and alternate color palette, activate passive Leader Skills that grant team-wide stat increases such as extra attack power, maximum HP, or critical rate.

Airship Routines and Stat Upgrades

Between story runs, use your Airship deck to prepare your roster for the next chapter:

  • Collect Deck Resources: Tap roaming Astromons and gold sparkles on the Airship deck for extra Gold and Energy.
  • Feed Matching Fruit: Feed collected Fruit directly to your core team members. Matching the fruit's element to the recipient Astromon grants bonus experience to accelerate leveling.
  • Equip and Upgrade Basic Gems: Place flat-stat Attack, Defense, and HP gems into an Astromon's available triangle, square, or diamond sockets. Enhance these early gems to +3 or +6 with Gold to secure immediate survivability before farming advanced gear.
