To beat Chapter 8 in Northgard, you must establish a stable food reserve to survive harsh winters, clear a controlled path to the center of the map, and recruit a balanced army of Shield Bearers, Axe Throwers, and Warriors led by your warchief to slay the Wyrm.

Launch your final assault immediately after winter ends so your military does not collapse your economy while fighting the boss.

Secure Early Resources and Frontier Defense

The territory surrounding your starting town hall contains hostile wolves, draugr, and natural hazards. Expanding recklessly drains food and leaves your settlement exposed during the first winter.

  • Scout Food Nodes First: Direct your scouts toward adjacent tiles containing fish ponds, deer herds, or fertile soil before exploring deeper inland.
  • Build Defense Towers on Outer Borders: Place a Defense Tower on exposed frontier tiles rather than maintaining idle military units, which continuously consume gold and food in upkeep.
  • Preserve Unassigned Villagers: Keep a steady baseline of standard villagers gathering base food and wood so resource rates do not turn negative during construction projects.

Prepare Stockpiles Before Winter

Winter heavily reduces standard food output and increases firewood consumption. Falling into negative resource rates causes sickness across your clan, reducing worker output and stalling military production.

Overproduce resources throughout spring and summer. Upgrading your Scout Camp and Woodcutter’s Lodge early provides the materials needed to construct Silos. Silos increase baseline food output on their tile and protect your reserves from rat infestations.

ResourceTarget Reserve Before WinterPurpose
Food200+Prevents starvation and winter sickness while sustaining population growth.
Wood150+Sustains building heating and pays for rapid post-attack repairs.
Kröwns100+Covers military structure upkeep and emergency unit recruitment.

Advance Toward the Wyrm's Lair

The Wyrm occupies the center of the map, surrounded by progressively dangerous neutral monsters and expensive colonization requirements.

  1. Clear neutral creeps methodically: Send your warchief alongside a small military squad to clear one tile at a time.
  2. Heal wounded units: Use a Healer's Hut to restore unit health before entering subsequent combat zones or paying colonization costs.
  3. Establish forward staging zones: Do not build civilian resource buildings on border zones adjacent to untamed tiles. Instead, build training camps and supply depots to reduce travel time for reinforcements.

Assemble the Strike Force and Defeat the Wyrm

The Wyrm deals heavy area-of-effect cleave damage with its breath attacks. Relying purely on basic Warriors will result in swift squad wipes.

Draft your warband only after securing at least 300 food and a strong reserve of Kröwns, as converting villagers into soldiers severely strains your economy.

  • Frontline: Send Shield Bearers in first to absorb the Wyrm's primary attacks and establish threat.
  • Ranged Support: Spread upgraded Axe Throwers along the outer perimeter of the tile so cleave attacks do not hit multiple units at once.
  • Core Damage: Move Rig and your Warriors into melee range once the Wyrm is locked onto your Shield Bearers.
  • Retreat Low-Health Units: Micro wounded units across the border into an adjacent friendly tile to shed aggro and receive healing.

Defeating the Wyrm and securing its territory fulfills the primary objective and completes Chapter 8.
