To win difficult combat encounters in Nova Saga, spread your squad across multiple angles to avoid area-of-effect damage, focus all attacks on back-line support and burst enemies first, and rotate injured units away from telegraphed enemy strikes.

Target Selection and Isolation Strategy

Focus your team's damage on one priority target at a time instead of spreading attacks across an entire enemy formation.

• Target Priority: Direct attacks toward ranged, support, or high-burst enemy units positioned in the back line. Removing enemy buffer and healer units early disables their support systems and shortens the encounter length.
• Ignore Front-Line Tanks: High-health tank enemies are designed to absorb damage. Leave them for last while your team clears the real damage dealers behind them.
• Flanking Maneuvers: Send mobile heroes around the enemy line to engage back-row targets directly. Flanking forces enemy AI to turn around, which resets their attack wind-up animations and opens windows for critical damage without taking immediate counterattacks.

Timing Hero Skill Sequences

Randomly using abilities wastes energy and allows enemies to escape heavy damage. Coordinate hero skills to hit during specific combat conditions:

1. Chain Crowd Control into Area-of-Effect Damage: Trigger stun or freeze skills first to lock enemies into place, then immediately follow up with high-damage AoE abilities so no targets escape the impact area.
2. Capitalize on Break Windows: Hold primary damage skills until an enemy is stunned or recovering from a heavy attack cycle. Striking during these break windows maximizes your team's damage output while keeping heroes safe.

Battlefield Positioning and Evading Telegraphs

Monitoring enemy strike animations and managing team space prevents unnecessary damage and hero deaths:

• Spread Out Units: Avoid clustering your squad in one location. Spreading units forces enemies to path inefficiently and prevents single AoE attacks from hitting multiple heroes.
• Dodge Telegraphed Attacks: Watch for unique enemy wind-up animations. When an enemy begins telegraphing a heavy strike, immediately move your hero off that tile or strike line to negate the hit.
• Execute Defensive Rotations: If a hero reaches critical health, pull them to the back line and shift a healthy unit into position. Keep a hero with high defensive stats on standby to peel off enemies that break through to your back-line damage dealers.
